Recover important documents after format

I got the vista upgrade and it didnt go so well, My comp got messed up and would restart. I went ahead and did a format and installed win xp med center, being the COMPLETE IDIOT that I am , i totally forgot to recover my important class notes that i took for 5 months. Ill be totally depressed if i dont recover them. Its unlikely though. But maybe theres a way , if someone has a sugggestion let me know. Thank you.

I have had alot of success with GetDataBack.. and SpinRite is really good as well...as long as the data you need to recover has not been written over you should be able to recover it using one of those utilities...

Given it's an OS install, the OP shouldn't get his hopes too high. Instead, he should go out and buy an external harddrive for backup purposes, so this never happens again.
