Looks legit to me, but I highlighted what is suspicious. Discuss:

Konami Corporation (Konami) is happy to announce the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will release for the Xbox 360 game console in Q1 2008. The game will release for PlayStation 3 game console soon after, pending the conclusion of a limited exclusivity agreement with Microsoft Corporation (Microsoft)(?). Through joint effort with Microsoft, Konami will bring Xbox 360 gamers exclusive online game content and gameplay modes through the Xbox Live service.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the follow up to 2004's highly successful Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Gamers will return to the story of Solid Snake in the events following 2001's Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Now an aging and exhausted operative in the middle of a futuristic battlefield, Solid Snake must battle his own declining genetical makeup. In spite of his failing body, Snake is equipped with a crucial new device tentatively known as "OctoCamo," a high-tech suit that dynamically transforms its texture based on Snake's surroundings.

lol some wierd blog with 1 entry? did you make this? lol

No I didn't make this - it links to the Konami Japanese corproate site and carries the same formatting (though I suppose this could be replicated). I'm honestly not sure if this is some April Fools thing or if it is a sign of things to come. Normally I would not post something like this, but DMC4's confirmation followed a similar pattern.

So now it's being released on the 360 first when it has been in development for the PS3 this whole time?

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I'm betting on April Fools.

Could be. I'm hoping this is either confirmed or debunked quickly.

Werd. I don't doubt that it's coming to the 360 from what Kojima's been saying, but I doubt that it's going to be here first. I'm expecting a revised version, ala Substance.

cant believe someone even posted this.

Yeah it really doesn't add to the conversation much. Look, I'm not interested in spreading FUD here, but stranger things have happened with the recent multiplatform announcements. I don't see anything wrong with posting this, even if it turns out to be a rumor in the end.

Believe me, I absolutely hate to agree with anything "Technoob" says, but he is absolutely right on this one. April 1st "announcements" are annoying, and potentially dangerous given the number of people who might actually believe them (not that I'm calling you naive or anything, but, well..)

Still, don't believe everything you read on the internet, regardless of the date. The rumor mongering wastes quite a bit of time (and has a nasty habit of perpetuating FUD as well).

I thought it was pretty funny that your name was deception. Site could have fooled me too...except I don't know why Konami would post stuff at a blogspot.

LOL wow... I guess when you really want to believe something it makes you more gullible.

lol so you really think the 1st site to get info about mgs4 comin to the 360 is a blogspot one?

callin u a april fool is insultin to april

That was one poor April Fools joke... Im stealing it! I know some PS3 Haters that would believe anything.

Seems like a better quote:

"Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps," Kitaue said.

Sounds like the game might make an appearance, whether it be reluctantly or not.

Not real. Kojima said so. And what Kojima says, is true. lmao. Sorry, I love MGS a lot.

Thank you for commenting on something that was discussed at the end of March. Now, would you care to discuss Konami's direct comments to Reuters this week?

It's one person's comment (a suit's comment, at that).
Hideo Kojima is making the game, and Kojima Productions developed the game. Mr. Kojima said it wasn't possible on the 360, and although that point is arguable, I would think he would know more about whether or not it was possible to make the game on the 360 than ANYONE else (yes, that includes the suit), don't you think?

1. The developer will not determine the future of Metal Gear; the 'suit' will.

2. His comments about the PS3 being a 'theater' blah blah are nothing more than PR. In what capacity exactly could this game only work for the PS3? Graphically? Highly doubtful. Perhaps the only challenge they might face is in dealing with the reduction in space which is likely being used for either FMV or uncompressed audio [something that most people either don't care for or lack the proper hardware to appreciate].

3. Why would an executive at Konami even begin to speculate on 'other options' for MGS4 if the game was only possible on the PS3? If this was true it would make more sense for them to focus on other projects instead of creating speculation through Reuters.

4. Don't you think that the 'suits' have had contact with the developer and have a good handle on whether or not the game can be made multi-platform?

Ultimately if what you claim is true there would be no reason whatsoever for the recent Reuters comments seeing as MGS4 could never be possible on the 360.

Kojima never said it wasn't possible on the 360

Um... yeah he did. He didn't say "impossible" he meant it would have to be scaled down to much, and for the things he's aiming to accomplish in the game, he doesn't seeing it offering the experience of the game as well as the PS3.

And besides, unless I hear it quoted from Konami, or Kojima says anything, then it's speculation. All I know is, it's being developed FOR PS3, and if it was to be released on 360, then it would be released some time after.

Kojima never said it wasn't possible on the 360

Really?

Pity. So, Devil May Cry 4, going multiplatform. Thoughts? Comments? "I think it's up to each project, and the individual producer", he says. "If they want to take it multiplatform, they will". I'm going somewhere with this question, and he knows exactly where that is...

"But like I said, MGS4 is aimed for the movie theatre, it's aimed for the PS3, so the game's scenario and graphics need this theatre-type hardware. It's when a producer has a game that can work on the 'DVD level' that a game will go multiplatform", he says. Sorry kids. Your "OMGMGS4360" banners will have to come out another day.

Since we've opened up this can of worms, I may as well get his thoughts on it. Why, I ask, do you think this rumour simply refuses to go away? "Because 360 owners want it on 360, obviously", he quips.

Really

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/676/676685p1.html

In a recent Web interview with Hideo Kojima, the master of all things Metal Gear Solid explained that creating Metal Gear Solid 4 is technically possible on Xbox 360.

What you just quoted is him stating 'It's designed for PS3" that's it. Well ya uncompressed audio he's going to need all the space. No where in the quote says he can't make it happen. Heh. How DO they put those movies on dvd afterall. That movie was designed for a movie theatre!! ;)
I think is funny how people don't take history into account (Resident evil 4)

If MGS4 comes out for Xbox360 it would have to be at the end of 2008 or later. Porting takes time. Perhaps it may happen later, but it would start off as an exclusive on the PS3. There is no point in announcing that it will go multiplatform to Xbox360. that will just burn karma with Sony AND hurt their PS3 version sales.

In light of this, this news stinks of BS.

it may not be BS it may be a way of forcing Sony into the current price cut. They may have been using the press to put pressure on Sony to find a way of selling more systems. Let's face it the X-Box 360 has a year of sales more than the PS3 as well as it out selling week to week ( until this week ) the PS3. They may have wanted to light a fire under the Gaming division at Sony. Who can say how long it would have taken to port it to the 360 ( I am thinking the problem with the port would be the code was written to optimize the processor on the PS3 and this would have had to be written from scratch to go over to the 360 ) but a threat can make people move fast.

Konami chief says, PS3 Price cut is not enough to keep MGS 4 an Exclusive
Exec: PS3 price cut no cure
Konami chief says maker of 'Metal Gear Solid' may need to seek audiences beyond Sony game console to recoup development costs.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) — Sony Corp.'s $100 price cut for the PlayStation 3 is not enough to turn the fortunes of the game console, which has suffered a slow start, an executive of game software maker Konami Corp. said.

Sony (Charts) cut the PS3 price to $500 in the United States on Monday, in a bid to ignite demand. But it still costs twice that of Nintendo Co. Ltd.'s Wii console, whose $250 price and motion-sensing controller have made it a best-seller despite its lack of cutting-edge graphics.

“I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100,” Kazumi Kitaue, the head of Konami's North American and European operations, told Reuters in an interview ahead of this week's E3 video game industry trade show.

“I don't expect a substantial impact ... With $500, you can buy a personal computer.”

Sony has packed its cutting-edge technology including a Blu-ray high-definition DVD player and high-performance chips in the PS3. The advanced functions enable life-like graphics, but have driven up production costs.

Its high price and a lack of attractive software have been cited as major reasons for the PS3's plight.

Kitaue said Konami may need to expand the target hardware for its blockbuster fighting game Metal Gear Solid, which has so far been developed for Sony's PlayStation machines, to other consoles in the future to recoup development costs.

“Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps,” Kitaue said.

Konami plans to launch Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PS3 in the current business year to March 2008.

Hard-core gamers
The release of the latest version of Metal Gear Solid series is expected to help lure hard-core gamers to the PS3 and alleviate concerns over scarcity of strong PS3 titles.

Underscoring sluggish PS3 sales and robust demand for the Wii, Nintendo shot past Sony in market value last month and bumped the Tokyo-based electronics conglomerate off the list of Japan's 10 most valuable companies.

Kitaue also said operating profit at Konami's game division is likely to grow in the next business year starting April 2008, following an estimated 5 percent growth for the current year, as the user base for new consoles - Microsoft Corp (Charts, Fortune 500) Xbox 360 as well as the Wii and PS3 - expands.

“Next year is still a growth period. I think we will grow, and so will the industry,” he said.

Konami, which competes neck and neck with No. 1 video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc (Charts). in Europe's soccer game market, has the potential to double its soccer software sales in the United States, gaining on EA, Kitaue said.

“Our soccer game sales in the United States total a little fewer than 500,000 units. If we combine ours with EA's, that's going to be 2 to 3 million units. I believe, with proper preparation, we can bring our number to 1 million,” he said.

Following Kitaue's comments, shares in Sony closed down 1.1 percent at 6,460 yen on Tuesday in Tokyo, while Konami, known for such games as Dance Dance Revolution and Pro Evolution Soccer, gained 0.9 percent to 2,940 yen.

The benchmark Nikkei average was virtually unchanged.
Sounds like it might become multiplatform :).

Of course it's possible :)

That comic is freaken awesome :)

So isn't there a lot of talk these days that games getting ported from the X360 don’t do so well on the PS3. People blame lazy devs or a quick way to make extra $$$. So if a game is developed ground up to run on the PS3... yall really think the port is going to be better?

I think this will have the same effect Halo had on PC gamers. By time it actually got ported to PC who really gave a *uck. It will come out, people will love it (or hate it w/e), it will get talked about and played, then (and if) they release it on the X360 with "some additional" content (that may be downloadable in time to the PS3er's)... Point is, by time this all takes place, the lust for this game will probably die down and we will all be awaiting MGS5.
