looks good since you see that same build here almost everyday......is there a GPU somewhere in there?

The GPU is something that I'm undecided about. I don't 'need' the PC at this time. I'm basically shopping for a solid foundation. Thanks for the feedback!

excellent... you'll have a fun time overclocking on the 680i.

For GPU, contrary to what everyone tells me, I'd recommend sticking to the Geforce 7 or Radeon X1900 series. The Geforce 8800 is one beast, but I hear it slows considerably in DX10. Course, could be the drivers. So if you can wait just a little till the other 8600 cards, you're set.

Thanks, Night Black. Does anyone think that I should go with the 1000-watt PP&C so that it is more 'future-proof'?

Here's just 2 cents worth.............
Thats a great set-up so far. I have a similar one(see sig) and it runs like a bandit......

I really think an 8800 GTX would be a good move......right now it can't be touched, with just ONE card......nobody knows how it will run with DX10 because we dont really have any games yet and Vista drivers are still weak...............

If your single 8800GTX runs a little sluggish, you can SLI this system at a later date......right now if you put one 8800GTX in your new box there, it will beat down anything else or any underling SLI setup.

Think [H]ard about 1000W PSU.

Any suggestions for a better case? This one looks pretty cool / functional to me.

Yeah, as far as the 1KW, I'll never have 6 RAIDed drives / quad everything. I don't want to trip breakers.

I'm thinking AVA...

Well you should know AVA has a 3 year warranty, not a 1 year.

Also, call up Misha there. He'll give you some good recommendations if you're wondering about your config. He's a pro.

I have two Lian-Li cases that are the most elegantly simplistic PC cases I've ever worked with. I would buy another in a heartbeat.
Rethink the 1Kw PSU.....if you SLI 8800s you'll need the extra power....or if you wait for an ATI version, you may need two:eek:

Ha! Good call on the power requirement!

I will check into that case.

#1. It's all about air flow.

#2. No sharp edges (when I have to work inside.)

#3. Looks cool.

Which models? Do you pefer one over the other?

I like this one:http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104&products_id=4251 because it's old school and big (long) enough to hold the PCP&C 850W PSU I bought.

This one:http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104&products_id=4262 is just flat out beautiful, very popular and very roomy. I dont have this case but most boutique builders feature this case or one similar due to the fabulous look. there are a ton of others.

My other Lian-Li is a plain Jane PC-60 model.
You will love Lian-Li cases once you have one. They are elegant, well built and designed, have a ton of choices and most can/are windowed if that's your thing.
Plus it's so easy to build inside one, the aluminum is easy to modify if you need to.

disclaimer: I do not work for performance-pcs, they just have a great selection of cases and will modify them for you if you want something special.:D

Thanks! I am looking at cases for my upcoming AVA build. Appreciate the info:)

Same boat casewise.

I've been looking at the Antec Nine Hundred because I like the PS at the bottom, window, and fans. The other thing is size: I want to stay under about 19.25 inches tall.

But some of those Lian Li are looking good for the reasons you guys talk about. I don't like doors, I do like windows. I do want the window on the left because the computer will likely sit to my right. I'm working from the list on AVA and performance for an AVA build.
