Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

Ok, thank goodness, it finally arrived today. Now, a few questions...

1. Is it really safe to wall mount this? The wall mount holes seem so close to the center. Just want to make sure its ok.

2. How do I remove the stand?

Thanks.

Yeah, it's safe. I have mine on the wall right now. You need to make sure u mount your bracket to a stud in the wall.

There are 4 screws on the back toward the edge on the stand. the 4 screws look the same, dont remove the one's with different style head. After that the stand will slide out.

ps. Make sure to put the screws back in the TV after the stand is removed, just so you dont loose them.

Stupid Valentine's Day. I can't have mine delivered tomorrow because I'll be at work and I would have my g/f be at my place to sign for it but she has to be at her place for her flowers. Now I have to wait until Thursday. That's almost a whole week and newegg is right down the street!

I just purchased this monitor from Conn's for $999 + tax

However theres an annoying dead pixel at the middle of the screen

I'm going to go tomorrow and get it exchanged, hopefully open and check out the replacement in-store.

Well its official. $1099.99, shipped, no tax, PCNation. Beautiful. I'll belive it when I see it. Good luck to myself.

Zac, the blue ones u have circled + the ones above them. So there is 4 all together in a square pattern.

You know, on closer inspection I do have dead pixels... three of them, to be exact. But two are quite close to the border, and one must be a sub-pixel because it's so tiny I don't see it from where I'm sitting (4 feet). Soooooo yeah, this is the first screen with dead pixels I won't return---very ironically!

I have a little dilemma. I got the 37W3 for an amazing price a little over a month ago; it was a display model plus they took an additional 25% off since they didn't have the box or manual for it. Total paid: $641. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a dark vertical line across the entire display about 6 inches from the left side of the panel. It's usually only noticeable on a very light/white background. I've tried the XBox 360 using VGA and component, a dvd player and cable over component and it shows up using all of these.

Do I keep it since I got it for such a good deal and hope it doesn't get worse or return it and pay an extra $400 for a new one. The place I got it from no longer carries it but they do have a 90 day return policy. I wouldn't mind keeping it if I knew it wouldn't get any worse but $641 is still a chunk of change for a defective unit even if it is minor. I'm leaning towards keeping it until the 90 days are almost up hoping that the price will drop below the $1000 mark someplace else. Also thought of returning it direct to Westinghouse but was concerned that I'd end up paying quite a bit for shipping there and back. Sorry, didn't mean for this to get so long. Any suggestions? What would you do? Thanks for any input.

it carries a 1 year warrenty from Westinghouse..my advise is to call them:
9 AM - 9 PM Eastern Time
1 (866) 287-5555
see what they are willing to do for you...on the off chance u have something set wrong...and if not...they will help you...my experience with them has been a 10 out of 10

 I have a concern with Image Quality in regards Motion on the screen of my Westy.

If this is a repost I apologize, I've only read about half of these 130 pages ;). First I'll say I love my Westy and despite this concern I still love it and it was a great bargain. I have no dead pixels nor any color bands that persons reported with earlier versions of my Westy.
That being said, owning it for a few weeks now I have a concern with the how images in motion appear on my Westy. Whenever I am watching a video or playing a game and there is fast motion on the screen, I notice (how do I describe this) a horizontal tearing or banding as the image is drawn on the screen. Still images are perfect, and normal motion is also fine.

It is as if the display is limited in how much it can draw on the screen at one time, and when the image in motion exceeds this limit -- it flickers and tears. This not an intermittent problem but can be reproduced every time. If I am watching a 1080p QuickTime trailer for instance, the video will ‘split’ at some place along a horizontal line (sometimes two lines) where the video above and below are not drawn on the screen together at the same time.

3D Games are easy to reproduce this. If I grab any 3D object and use the mouse to drag it across the screen very fast, the 3D object will flicker and tear all the way and all the time (everything behind the 3D object that is not in fast motion still appears fine, the banding only appears on what is in fast motion).

Being a faily hardcore gamer myself, this is a pretty weighty concern as I play multiplayer 3D games almost exclusively.

Now I also moved to my Westy from a CRT, so I may just be seeing an inherent problem of LCD's -- however the artifacting seems so painfully obvious that doubt this is the case and I'm leaning toward it being specific to the Westy since it is in such an affordable price range.

I’m using a 10 foot DVI cable and I am wondering if a shorter cable would help. It’s a shot in the dark but I can’t think of much else. Any thoughts or similar experiences? Specs are in my sig if curious.

Thanks,

First I would like to note your signature file states you have a 42" Westy (Probably LVM-42w2). This is the LVM-37w3 thread and I don't want people to confuse the two models as they both have their pro's and cons.

I have done some reading on that model and banding was a "huge" issue with early model firmware revisions. Lots of 42" owners had to get firmware upgrades to resolve their issues. I would do some research over at www.avsforum.com. They have an extensive thread on your model. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=689997

The other thing I would do is make sure you have vertical sync turned on in your game's 3D Settings. It may lower your FPS but will minimize your screen tearing.

Thanks for the response & thanks for the thread link.
In my reading in this thread, it was my understanding that the banding concerns were a different issue -- and that there was permanent physical bands on the screen with different shades of color on each side.
My issue is specific to images on the screen in motion not being in sync, causing not a literal line, but a visible line of differentness where the parts of the image meet. These lines can appear in multiple places at the same time depending on the motion, and they constantly change as the motion plays out. Easy to see but hard to describe ;)

I will read that thread and see what I come up with thanks.

PS - I thought Vsync didn't work for LCD's, is this not true?

I have worked it out so at the end of March/beginning of April I will have a good chunk of change to spend on my wife and I. For her I am buying her a new computer and LCD monitor. For myself I am buying a XBox 360 and a couple accessories as well as a gaming quality LCD. I have been looking at the Gateway FPD2485W mainly because I could find it locally. However in looking around I found the Westinghouse LVM-37W3 at Conn's. So I can buy it locally.

On the current budget I was planning on spending approximately $2,100.00.

If I didnt buy the FPD2485W but bought the LVM-37W3 instead I would be spending approximately $2,500.00.

So would the price difference of $400 be worth it?

Thanks.

Anyone know the best way I can hook up this monitor so it uses my Klipsch 4.1's for output?

I have my PC and Wii connected to the TV

i have a rca to mini stereo going into the aux port on the klipsch speaker. the volume difference between my pc/wii is huge...

I have to manually turn up my speakers when I am playing my wii but if i switch to windows they are extremely loud.

I'm not quite sure what this has to do with the monitor at all.

In regards your devices and speakers, it sounds as if you've connected your pc and wii to your speakers correctly. If your issue is only that the signal input is different from the pc and the wii, couldn't you just turn down the master volume and wave volume on your pc?

My apologies if I'm being to painfully obvious and I missed what you were getting at.

EDIT: on re-reading your comment, perhaps you think the manner in which your pc and wii connect to your speakers is the reason why the signal strength varies so much? This should not be the case, it more depends on the output power and volume of the audio device inputted into the speakers, not the cable or where it plugs into your speakers.

I am so excited the Westy is running ahead of schedule:

Feb 14, 2007 9:28 AM

On FedEx vehicle for delivery

I wish the FedEx man would hurry up.

You are full of shit. The Gateway does not cause any more eye strain than the Westy.....you sound like one of those paid forum goers that randomly drops in to large, popular forums, and spouts rubbish.

Ah im so disappointed. Prices on the 37w3 are going back up. I've been patiently waiting to find this monitor for 1k which was apparently an easy proposition back in 2006. Now $1200 seems like the going rate. I've been watching newegg's $999 +$99 shipping deal, hoping that they would eventually lower the shipping cost, and now its gone back to $1099 + $99, and PCnation has it on backorder.

It's great that this monitor holds its value so well, but not so great if you're a college student looking to buy one. So what do you guys think, is there any hope for finding a 37w3 for a grand anytime soon, or do I need to just starve myself for a month and buy one?

That sounds pretty bad, I was holding out as well. When duce3 mentioned PCnation had it for 1075 shipped I bit. It got delivered a day early and I am typing on it now. OMG is all I can say I actually went to look at one these before I bought it and thought well it is big but it will rock as a monitor. It is big as shit and I love it, now all I have to do is set the colors and start playing some games. Did I say OMG :D

The dot pitch on this sucker is like .44.... is it noticeable at all or does it really not matter since most will sit a few feet away from it and not be able to tell?

I can only notice the pixels if I get within a foot and a half or 2 feet.

Buydig=$1099.95 Shipped
mwave=$1088.25 Shipped

I know others on this thread have had little no problems with these Dealers. Go fo it

Finally took the plunge and bought this badboy. I've been watching this thread for a very long time hoping one day it would be mine. Pictures coming soon.

I still have to trade my digital box for an HD box, get an upconvert dvd player, perhaps an XBOX360 and eventually a new PC because mine isn't worthy of this monitor but the important thing is it is home. Everything else will come in due time.

Oh, I got it at a local Conn's for 999.97 and went ahead with a 2yr warranty. Came out to about what I would have paid for it several months ago.

Can't wait to see this thing in action.

Is there a sticky or a thread that provides links to tools for calibrating/tweaking settings/testing for dead pixels, etc. as this is also my first LCD.

thanks

Here's a deal I'm considering. What you guys think? Any chance of getting it cheaper within the next month? your opinion please!

1069.98 Shipped!

Thanks for your responses!

I have actually purchased from them several times. They have kind of a NewEgg feel. They ship just as quick, and I have no complaints using them!

Now if only I could find a coupon code!

My Advice Go through their Customer Reviews and make a Judgment from there. Focus on only the negative ones and be subjective (i.e. If it sounds like a Stupid complaint it most likely is). The Positive ones usually tend to be quick eBayish Positive comments (I got my stuff on time yadayadayada). From reading the Negative ones use your best judgement. I don't recall anyone in this thread here has mentioned using them and I have not used them either, so it's up to you. gl

Just kind of curious on how far away people sit from this monitor. So how far away do you sit from this monitor? The real reason I ask is that I am blind in one eye and am curious if something so large would be a good buy considering I do not have a 100% field of vision.

Thanks.

Personally, Im not concerned about purchasing from Chiefvalue.

My main concern is if this is a good price. Do you think that this is as good as it get for a while?

I really want to buy it shipped for under 1k - just not sure if I am just dreaming or what!

Alright, I think im going to make the purchase tonight. Question is Mwave.com or ChiefValue.com?

Mwave = $1,048 shipped standard ground
ChiefValue = $1,069 shipped with AIT front door delivery

Just wondering if anyone has experience with both sellers.

So glad to here somebody listen to me in here. How did you like your ordering experience from PC Nation. FedEx deleviered mine about 3 days late but PC Nation was ok. They told me a manager would be calling me about it, but I haven't heard anything as of yet. This thing is insane. Tried running it off of my laptop through VGA and it looked like flaming crap. Had way to much eye strain but think when I build my new rig and feed it a digital signal through DVI it will look better. The 360 looks awesome though VGA but still can't wait for the HDMI version to be released (fingers Crossed). This baby truly shines when it has true 1080p content comming through it. I played some Battlestations Midway on it a couple of times and my jaw still hasn't been raised off of the floor. I don't care what anyone says that game was made for 1080p, I was playing it on SD since the demo launch and still can't believe the amout of detail that is there.

I would recommend this thing 20 times over only downer is the pixel pitch is not good for serious photographers. I didn't think the smaller amount of the adobe 1998 color scale would matter that much but it does. I will be purchasing a nice 19 - 21" to complement it for editing photos. I love this thing and say get a digital connection!

I haven't fired it up just yet (waiting to get my HD box) but these are some pics of my westy's new home.

This is a Tv is it not? lol

I was looking at the Benq FP241W which is $850 (24") and it looks amazing or the Dell 2407 24" for $850 as well. for my gaming monitor.

Then I noticed this thread and was like WOW. a 37" But what would I do :p :p

My question is to the owners who already have purchased this.
Is it worth the money?
And what are you using the Monitor for?
Are you playing PC games such as BF2 and CS?or any other type of gaming on this besides the consol games. and how do they look. If it work sout well I might spend the $

Everyone seems to be very happy with them... And they are also good for those games... the only downside of the monitor that I have seen anyone talk about is it not being the best for photo editing if you are hardcore about that at all.
