Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

Thinking about picking one of these up but I'm wondering where the best place is to pick one up. Price is obviously important but I don't want to order from someplace like NewEgg due to their return policy on big-screen LCD's. The place I'm leaning towards right now is Sam's Club. Has anyone had any problems with Sam's before or is it a good place to buy a monitor? Or any other suggestions?

Looks like if your a member of Sam's Club and you order online, you can return it. Or am I wrong?

I think that is the case, but remember that to purchase this monitor you have to buy a Sam's club membership. I don't know how much that is but just count on that to be added to the coast.

Well it looks like today is the day. Gay ass FedEx says it is on the truck for delivery but of course post no time. Luckily my wife will be here for the two hours I am gone to drive, attend, and return from class (only attending one today). Man I can't wait have to find a cheap kvm switch until I build my new rig.

Im not a big PC gamer, the only game I play is CS: Source

Thanks

If your not then look at the EVGA 7950GT with 512mb but is direct X9 or the 7900GS Flavor with 256mb of ram. The 7950 is like $240 and the 7900 is like $150. I think the 7900 would be perfect for you. I could push this monitor with no problem. And you get to save some scratch.

I would think you could return it to the store. At least you will be able to go to a store better then bitching over the phone to some online store. Also the Price is just as good as the online stores. I belive a membership is like 30 bucks, maybe worth it if you are worried about ordering online(just like me).

Bought mine from the egg on Friday. Completely an impulse buy as I didn't really do any research before pulling the trigger. My office super bowl pool winnings and tax refunds were burning a hole in my pocket. Anyways, my office is two buildings down from newegg headquarters and they wouldn't let me just pick it up. Oh well. It shipped Friday and I hope it gets here today but I don't know anything about this AIT shipping method. Anyone know how long this method usually takes from the egg? Keep in mind it doesn't have to travel very far.

I ordered mine on a Friday and got it delivered to Marietta, GA on the following Wednesday. Actually, I got a call from an AIT rep on Tuesday (and the online status showed that it had arrived locally), but I had to make an appointment for delivery for the next day. It sucked because I was free all that day and had to leave early on Wednesday to meet my appointment. The delivery guy was pretty nice and helped me carry the box down some stairs and into my apartment.

Somebody talk me out of it before its too late. I have the cart ready, credit card info is already entered, the only thing is left is to click submit order. I figured that the extra 200 or so to buy from Sam's Club was a little much, and I also do not have to pay tax on the NewEgg purchase! Should I DARE!

Do it but get it from PCNation as it is cheaper there and they are good to deal with or at least they have been very helpful for me thus far. $1075 Shipped btw.

If you want to get talked out of buying it this is the wrong place.

so thats a 21" in portrait on the side? looks to be comparable in height? also what stand are you using to hold it up there?

Yeah its a Samsung 215TW in portrait mode. It is almost the same side as the Westy in height. I'm using a cheap ~$8 monoprice.com mounting bracket.

It is looking like the westy is owning the 21" quality wise.

Actually the 21" has much better image quality, its smaller so the pixels are smaller and it is also brighter. In the pic though the westy gets the straight shot while the 21 gets an angled shot, so the westy looks clearer. If I had focused on the 21" the westy would look worst.

Recieved mine today, the box is huge! Going to have to barrow a truck to take it home from work. The box is in really good shape. AIT shipping -> Beaver express did a good job taking care of it.

yeh...7900gt will run just fine...the vid card has nothing to do with "pushing the monitor" though...but assuming you have enough of a system to go with a 7900gt it "should" run most of you pc games @ 19x12...i just changed from a 7900gt to the card in my sig..and i didnt have any issues playing BF2 @ that res...i couldnt run much "eye candy" with it....which is the reason i bought a better card

I am so pissed off right now that it is unbelievable. I ordered my LVM-37W3 from Newegg on Feb. 3rd. It shipped out on Feb. 5th. It says that the AIT shipping takes 3-5 business days to arrive, and I was being optimistic hoping for about 4 days (since it only had to go two states, from California to Washington). Unfortunately it didn't arrive on Thursday of that week, but I didn't really care since that was only 4 days. Friday rolled around, still no TV...I'm starting to get angry. I call up AIT, and it turns out the TV is only in Portland, Oregon, after FIVE DAYS, and is scheduled to be shipped to Seattle, then Spokane. My town is in the middle of those 3 places, yet it went DIRECTLY AROUND MY TOWN.

Anyway, on Friday they said it would be here on Monday from 10 to 2, so be sure to have someone home, because they NEVER ship weekends, even for extra money. Monday came and went, and still no package. Now very irritated, I called again today, and they say Tuesday. I would bet that tomorrow, they will say Wednesday.

This is unbelievable. WORST SHIPPING SERVICE EVER.

No offense, but it sounds as if you don't have much experience with shipping. Whining about expected delivery time is like complaining to the weatherman that it rained when he said it would be sunny. Also, shipping delivery schedules are always measured in business days and do not include the weekend.

If I were you would I have an item of this importance held at the local routing center. This way you can pick it up at YOUR convince.

That's kind of the point; they don't have a local place that they will put anything, I know they are measured in business days (3-5 is what it said, it was shipped Monday, it should be here Wednesday-Friday, no?), and I would hate to see how long it takes this terrible company to ship across the country, say from NEW YORK to Washington. What makes it worse is that they keep saying it will be there the next day, then that day just saying the next day, etc.

Man I got mine from gay ass FedEx today and all I can say is wow. Windows media video sucks 1080p freaking rocks and surfing the new on this monster pushed from my laptop is off the chain. Picks soon to come but have to go back to the 360.

The box had a rip in it but that was from the delivery guy coming up the stairs. The front bezel was bowed out but fixed by taking the screws out and it popped back into place. Can't see one dead pixel and won't go searching!

Well one thing you have to realize is this time of the year weather plays a huge role in delivery speed. If it was the summer and you were having problems it would be unusual.

Most of the white glove deliveries are under contract for a specific quality of service. If you believe that service hasn't been met, contact the retailer you bought it from and say so. I recall hearing of one instance with Crutchfield: A customer called the Crutchfield customer service line because he hadn't received his display when the shipping company specified he would. He got the display the next day and an apology from the head of the company apparently.

Things like ground shipping via the major carriers (dhl, ups, fedex) are usually guaranteed for a specific Day (time unspecified), and the express shipments are usually guaranteed for a specific day and time. Sometimes the "extra super value" shipments may not be, but the policy should be specified somewhere. If they don't meet their guarantee, you usually get the shipment free.

Well I ordered mine from PCNation and they said it would be here tomorrow (I went with overnight fedex). Of course it decides to rain then ice and snow like mad here so who knows what fedex will do tomorrow. If it doesn't arrive tomorrow I plan on a call to try and get my overnight shipping charges refunded at least. I wouldn't be surprised if they had some kind of disclaimer about weather, but of course that won't stop me from bitchin up a storm of my own! ;)

im looking for a portrait side monitor for my westy. doesnt need to be super great gonna just be for my email, widgets and such, not a main working monitor by any means would like it to conform to the height of the westy and be easy on the pocketbook....sugestions??

Dude I just got my westy in today and I love it. The only thing that I don't like is that this by no means a monitor that you can edit you photos in photoshop if you are serious. I also will be in the market for the same thing as you at least a 19" wide screen or at the most a 21" wide screen to put into portrait mode. I was looking at this one from Acer at newegg. Let me kow what you think

that would be me

What are you guys using to calibrate? I cant seem to find a good spot with brightness/contrast. But then again, maybe I'm just used to my old monitor.

Also for anyone interested, mine has firmware 1.80 on it. Ordered from newegg about a week ago.

For my Westy I just use some good high quality pictures of things I know what they should look like. Or, download 1080i/1080p test patterns and put them up. From there, watch movies and see how they look, and do further adjustments. Here's my settings with my 8800GTX at 1920x1080p via DVI.

My monitor settings: (firmware 1.6)
Brightness: 55
Contrast: 50
Saturation: 55
Hue: 0
Color Temp: Normal
Sharpness: 0
Backlight 100% :D

Nvidia control panel settings:
Brightness: 50%
Digital Vibrance: 30%
Contrast: 46%
Image Sharpening: None
Gamma correction: 9%

A power cable is also included. Westinghouse should bundle some cables--but they would probably be crappy, and it's useless when you can shop for high-quality stuff at Monoprice for ridiculously low prices.

Is there anywhere to get this TV under 1000?

Does it still have handshake issues with PS3?

Is the 42 just as good but bigger?

Is there anywhere to get this TV under 1000?

No, not currently. I ordered mine xmas day for $924, shipped

Does it still have handshake issues with PS3?

Yes, the problem apparently is in the PS3 firmware, not not being backwards compatible, to spec, as it is supposed to be

Is the 42 just as good but bigger?

The connections are similar, or the same (I cannot recall exactly...go to Westinghouse's page), but the DPI on the 42", at the same resolution, will obviously, be larger. I have not used this screen (42"), but would expect good image quality (for what it is) from the 42" as well.

Yes, or if you just want SDTV, any VCR or DVD recorder with a built-in tuner will do.

As for whether the 42" is as good as the 37", yes, but banding issues have been reported.

Ah, I'll be using it for HDTV as well. That all makes perfect sense, I just lost my whole train of thought there for a second.
