Supreme Commander Thread!

Wow you're an ---
Im sure.
Am I wrong? Please, go talk with the devs and tell me Im wrong. Obi_Kwei may be playing, but not with the real client (cracked version). Null hasn't replied, but hed say the same thing I am. GeForec 5 series will NOT play supcom. Attack that fact, and Ill just laugh at you. Attack me again and Ill report your post. Do you like being banned? Actually, I think Ill report it anyway. I dont like personal attacks.

Like this?

Well when you get the game and can look at the internal data from the tester and the devs and the engine coder, you can tell me the requirements. Until then, STFU.

Hypocrite.

And and for someone supposedly so knowledgeable about the game, the latest possible cracked version is 2.7. I am currently in the beta which is at 5.3 and way, way better than 2.7, which also was the real client. (It just involved editing some .lua files to enable a menu option. No .dll replacing, all though there was a LAN hack that did do that. )

And no one will argue against the fact that the FX series won't play supcom. Were just mad that you have to be such a pompous jerk to everyone about it.

I hate trolls.

EDIT: Of course If Sup Com did at some point support the Geforce 5 series, some tweaking, or a mod would probably get them to run it again, even if it would look stupidly bad. Sort of like the Doom III Voodoo thing. So, yes to who ever first asked, someone may get it to work just for fun, but it won't be fesible for regular use, especially if it's a 5600XT. It's time for an upgrade. Get a 9800pro (~70$) or a a 6600GT(110$) if you don't have much money.

STFU as in stop giving incorrect information. And if you want to give correct info, be my guest. Again, its an attack on idea vs attack on the poster.

And Im glad somebody who has been around for twice as long as you and has 3x your posts is a troll.

Im done here until we get back on the topic.

GL Sauron you did come off as all high and mighty and an a$$ etc.. you could of worded it a softer then being so blunt, with the I am always right attitude.

It is correct. Calling me a lair and appealing to post count doesn't change that. Honestly, this is out of control. I'm going to have to let a mod deal with this.

Pixel shaders 2.0 is correct, but its not the whole story. And thus the problem arises. The 5 series is 2.0 compliant, but you cant play. Therefore, its not the minimum requirement, is it? You can say a 200Mhz processor is a minimum requirement, but its *also* not the whole story. As far as I know everything with geometry instancing has PS2.0, so geometry instancing would be called the *minimum* requirement.

What? Why are we talking about the Gefroce FX thing again? I already said that you were right about that.

Then WTF are we arguing about? I was an ass, I agree. But it pisses me off when people give incorrect or incomplete information out. Its things like that that confuse people and setup unreal expectations..

I came to this thread for info on the game, and I've had to sift through arguements about system requirements. This thread needs cleaning up.

No time to clean up now, but the shit had better stop, otherwise the thread will be closed and offenders will be dealt with.

*beep* *beep* *beep* backing onto topic...

3 days left of the beta:( I can't wait for the full version to come out:)

I can't wait for some cpu and gpu scaling benchmarks to come out. This will probably be the first PC game I've ever preordered.

I'm seeing requirements as PixelShader2.0 and 128MB, and from what I'm reading, the 5600XT has that ... ?

This is from gpgnet Knowledge Base:

Multiplayer Beta System Requirements
(beta-only, not final game spec):

* Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® XP (SP2 recommended)
* Processor: 1.8 GHz or greater; 3.0 Ghz or greater, dual core, recommended
* RAM: 512 MB or greater; 2 GB recommended
* Hard Drive: 3 GB available hard disk space
* Video: GeForce 6000 and up, or ATI 9600 and up required (128 MB video RAM or greater, with Vertex Shader / Pixel Shader 2.0 support). ATI X800 XL or greater, nVidia GeForce 6800 or greater recommended
* Audio: Sound card or on-board audio component, speakers or headphones
* Internet: 56.6 Kbps Internet connection required; Cable/DSL speeds with 24 Kbps upstream per opponent recommended.

Are the system requirements for the beta the same as for the full game?

A: Most likely the retail game’s system requirements will be different from the beta’s. At the beta stage, the game is almost completely un-optimized (it is not smart to optimize until you have all of the final content and gameplay nailed down, which the beta will help us determine).

I hear Supreme Commander will require DirectX10 and Vista. Is this true?

A: No. SupCom does not need or require Vista (DirectX10 is built into Vista and will not be available to Windows XP users). The game runs fine on Windows XP and DirectX9, including features like split / dual screen mode and spiffy special effects. Vista and DirectX10 users might receive some spiffier effects, though.

Yup, I don't think the 5xxx series has PS 2.0b support, which may be the issue. ( I don't know what category geometry instancing falls under.) Either way, even if they made it so they could run, it would run and look so bad that it'd be pointless. I mean, if it struggles on a 6800XT, it'll choke and die on a 5600XT.

So its pretty much a core duo w/ 2 gigs and at least a graphics card with 2.0b PS support?

TA was the same way with high-end specs needed for maximum playability.

This is from gpgnet Knowledge Base:
Thanks. It seems the last GPGnet update broke SupCom. There is no GPGnet client anymore in its directory.
The sad thing is, I really dont care. I haven't played in weeks. Of course, TA is the same way with me. play until burnout and then leave it for a bit.

Nah, You should be able to handle it half way decent on a mid range A64. Honestly though, I wouldn't play it with less than a 6800GT.

I play SupCom on my Core Duo laptop with a x1600 mobile and it runs pretty smooth (I can play 4 player games on 20x20 maps without any problems.)

After having to report a couple of posts for flaming, thanks for mostly answering my question, obi_kwiet and pain.angel. Nice to see there are still some decent people out there.

I just gave GLSauron and Obi_Kwiet a week off for their deplorable behavior in this thread. Anyone else who wants to be a dick will share the same fate.

Let me remind everyone of Rule #1 of this forum:

(1) Absolutely NO FLAMING, NAME CALLING OR PERSONAL ATTACKS. Mutual respect and civilized conversation is the required norm.

I was at my local Walmart earlier and I came across a big sign for Supcom, snapped a quick pic on my phone:

Those things are often wrong at walmart. they still get them on the correct date in most cases. Same thing happened when I saw the bf2 sign at walmart but they had it on the correct day.

BETA over on monday :( well at least that means the game comes out :p cant wait to play the final version!

well i'm screwed then.

So this is sufficient (not meant as a hijack):

I'M ACTUALLY UPDATING MY SYSTEM FOR THIS GAME, CRAZY!

should be fine to play

Like to ask, what res, details ect. I have my Dell M1710 with a C2 Duo 2.0GHZ 4meg L2 cache, 1.5GB ram, 7900GS@600/800 clocks. I am sure I will be fine. Also soon I will be buying another 1GB stick next pay check.

According to EB ship date is the 20th, so stores will have it on the 21st usually (if they get daily shipments) which non game related places like Wally world may not.

My Core Duo 1.8ghz 1gig of ram and a x1600 mobile got a 157.1 on the supcom stress test.

That good? Is it fps or just a general rating? I'm assuming the latter.

If its the case where a a64 3000+ clawhammer at 1.8ghz and a 1950 pro agp will handle the situation then i'm just going to stick with agp and wait it out for dx 10 ati cards.

Doesn't seem like this will be the case. So to me a 8800, E6400, 2 gigs is the sweet spot.

Only problem is that spending 1200 bucks to play one game, doesn't float my boat.

Are there also any full on metal boards in this game?

As always thanks.

What is this stress test everyone is talking about? Are you just running that replay posted earlier with FRAPS on?

Painangle posted how to run the stress test.

place shortcut to supcom on your desktop.
at the end of the first edit box add this : /map perftest
run the shortcut.
scores your system in a lower is better manner.
