Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

Not grainy at all. Just make sure your graphics card supports 1920x1080 and you're good to go.

My current card cannot support it . . . but by the time I get the Westy, I will have a new computer, which should have an 8800GTX.

I am probably going to grab a 19" (or some other normal sized WS) monitor when I get the Westy, mainly for Supreme Commander (so I do not have to split the screen in half to have Theater of War view at all times).

Plus, if I end up not liking how text looks or just too big for my tastes to do that, I can just use my secondary.

Oh, and having full-screen game running on one screen and AIM or w/e on other screen would be neat. At least when waiting for game to start or if I died, so I do not have to minimize and so on.

most likely when you move your mouse to 2nd screen and click on something the game will minimize on your main monitor anyhow :(

Can I get some more people to confirm the Westy LVM-37W3 is not grainy, at least when hooked to a computer through DVI-D?

That is now my only iffy about the Westy 37W3 . . . somebody said it was the set-up, but I just want more than one person's say on this.

I will confirm for you that on my new rig..see sig below, and sitting about..err.. 3 feet + from the display as I got a new Ikea jerker just for this new Machine + Westy combo, it is not grainy. It is an LCD however, and they will never as uber totally smooth as a CRT, but d00d....this Westy is the second best PC upgrade I have ever bought, with the choice of Maingear F131 being the first.

Ill will be posting pics tonight probably. I love it bro. I think it seriously is perfect!

If the game supports windowed you can run it at 1920x1080 windowed (still fullscreen) and not have this problem.

I would really like to get the Ikea Jerker, but the viewing distance would be less than 3 feet from the monitor. Doesn't that burn out your eyes? I tested sitting less than 3 feet away and I can't see the full image without moving my eyes up / down / left / right. It seems the sweet spot for this monitor is 3.5 - 4 feet away.

Does anyone know of any other places I can get this monitor besides Best Buy? I've called all of the stores in mya rea and none have it. I rather get it at a place where I can go pick it up instead of buying it online and having it shipped.

Also, I see that this display came out over a year ago. Are there any other 1080p's that I should be looking at?

Well, Westinghouse has a list of reseller's on their website, but your best bets would be Newegg (they have a free DVD recorder combo), Crutchfield, J&R, or even Sam's Club. I just got mine from Newegg yesterday, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. :( As for other 1080p sets, the 42" Westinghouse has gotten some great reviews as well.

naw bud, it doesnt seem like I can get a good break :p... I'm gonna try some newer cables, buy some from BB, if they work, then great, if not owell, take them back... Then take the xbox back :( LOL...

Hey I just ordered my Westy on the 31st through Amazon (Electronics Expo). I got it for $998 after shipping. Plus Electronics Expo is an authorized dealer so it can be sent back to them for repair or replacement. Thought I would pass it on!!!

Okay. Just ordered my on Newegg! I was getting tired of searching at local places.

How long did it take you guys to get it shipped from Newegg?

I just rechecked and it did go back up. I don't know if it was a one day deal pr what. I copied and pasted the grand total from my receipt "Order Grand Total: $997.88"
Shipping Method: Standard
Shipping Preference: Group my items into as few shipments as possible
Subtotal of Items: $898.88
Shipping & Handling: $99.00
------
Total for this Order: $997.88

I guess I was just lucky.

One Week. Just picked mine up today, ordered on Jan 30th. That was with Newegg delays, processing new Preferred Account that I opened for the Westy. :)

They have this set at my local Conn's for 999.99. I was wondering if this was a good deal. They have a 42" Westinghouse at Bestbuy right now for the same price but not sure if it is 1080p and if the response time is the same, etc. Right now, I don't have a powerful pc nor a next-gen console nor HD content on my cable service but I figure I should start with a set that will be capable of producing max picture quality then get the rest as I can.

How does standard digital cable and dvds look through this monitor?

The 42" at BB is almost certainly the W4207, a very good model but NOT 1080p: its native resolution is 1366x768.

$1k for the 37w3 at Conn's is a very good price. I'd jump on it... I got mine for $1200 shipped from Crutchfield.

hmm...I looked at this monitor at BB and compared it to other similarly sized lcdTVs from sharp, toshiba, etc. The contrast of the westinghouse was certainly inferior, and seemed a little more washed out, but it could have just been the way they had it set up.

I work at Best Buy and I can honestly say that our hook up is pathetic. The slideshows on the displays look like junk. They look like my old and failing crt monitor that is really blurry

It's no mystery that BB feeds better signals to products they want to push---but it's not that they're bad or something. All retailers do that, and not just with electronics. Surprisingly, though, the Westinghouse 32" (w6) that's on sale for $699 has an *awesome* picture in the two stores I've seen.

can someone post a pic with the westy next to a 22 inch widescreen (dell) how do they look together?

yeah give us some comparison shots people. :D

Is this monitor good to use for a TV also with my HDTV cable box?I'm thinking about going to buy it but want to know if its good enough for a TV not a PC monitor.

it ROCKS for tv.. Just because its called a Monitor, and not a tv does not in any way mean it is incapable of being a good display for anything other than "monitor/computer" type stuff... I watch tv on this thing like a mad man!

What is a good online retailer to get a Westinghouse LVM-37W3 from? All of the sites I looked at have no return polices PERIOD soon as I open the box, except like one.
So, if, by some absurd event, the box did not even contain the monitor, I could not return it.

I could return it if I buy it on Sam's Club website . . . and would be nice, since I can return it directly to the store if I had problems, not having to ship it and so on.
I do not need anything really other than being able to return it if I have a problem. I just do not want to open the box, set it up, and notice 2183821832 dead pixels and a scratched screen and so on, but cannot do crap about it.

For xbox 360, what would you prefer with this monitor, those who have used...

VGA or Component ? If using the VGA, how do you achieve sound through the TV?? I could use my stereo but I hate my stereo... The 37w3 sounds better imo :p LOL

It's a really old crappy stereo...

The VGA adapter by microsoft for the xbox 360 comes with a RCA to 1/8 headphone jack adapter. The lvm-37w3 has a audio in for the VGA, you would need the adapter. Or you can run to radio shack and buy a crapy one for like 5 bucks.

Check out what I had to do the other day. My wife kicked me off the TV so I moved my xbox to my computer and had to rig the audio. It kinda sucked. But it worked.

Now to find the xbox vga for cheap. The one by microsoft. Not some funk aftermarket deal.

What kind of HAT you wearing there, It looks like a Derby on top of that tripod on the left.

Hey guys I told you all that I would post some pics of my new 42", but I have been a little sidetracked since I got it installed (busy with work). Anyways I promise to have something up today at some point. I am at the office this morning clearing up some things.

Been running this thing since Thursday night and it is nothing short of amazing. The colors are fantastic! It is absolutely huge. When I put the 24" 2407 Dell up next to it it looks like something my Westinghouse shit out...no joke. Quality is superb. Not a single dead pixel.

I tried my Xbox 360 on it and everything was fine at first and then when I went to load up Splinter Cell the damn thing froze and when I tried to restart it the thing would not turn on. So anyways long story short I went to Best Buy and replaced it with a new unit. I got it back and got everything back in order and went ahead to try out Gears of War. OMG did it look horrible. Every other game looked great on it except for Gears of War. Luckily though I connected up the wireless network adapter up and downloaded all the updates for the Xbox and for my games. When I restarted I went in and setup the 1080p in the console and tried Gears of War again. This time it was perfect. I am not sure what it was making it look so bad, but it was just horribad. The edges were so aliased and the textures were so muddy and washed out I would have guessed it was a n64 game if I didn't know better. Anyways now everygame looks amazing.

Went and ran some computer games on it. They looked phenomenal! I played some Half-Life 2 Episode One, Prey, Quake 4, CS: Source, Dark Messiah, and Guild Wars. They all looked fantastic! What is even cooler is that games look better on this thing than my Dell 2407. Infact they look MUCH better.

Next thing I did was play some HDDVD movies on it. They were just incredible! When I played Superman Returns, Equilibrium, and Swordfish my jaw was on the ground.

Anyways I will post some pictures and more about my experience later.

Can't wait for the pics. What VGA adapater are you using? How is the sound? I am still waiting for my lvm-37w3 to show. They held onto it for 3 days before they shipped it. *sigh* Should have got it at new egg.

Should I be using the vga cable for the Xbox 360? 1080p looks great over component for me on this lcd. Will I see an improvement with the vga cable? The sound is fine for TV speakers. I have my HDDVR plugged through HDMI. By the way HDTV looks fantastic as well. Most things are in 720p, but there are some that are in 1080i.

I was under the impression the ONLY way to get the xbox 360 was to use the VGA adapter. Otherwise it puts out 1080i

I am not an expert! But this link seems to lend to my thinking.

"For the 360 that means the VGA cable, which is currently the only way the system can output 1080p"

As far as I know, only Crutchfield does that... it's why I bought it there at $1200 instead of going for slightly lower prices at other e-tailers that offered no returns.

Also PC Rush offers returns on large TVs, but they don't carry Westinghouse products if I'm not mistaken.

That is only true for HD-DVD playback (and maybe downloadable content?). Games play back at 1080p over component without a hitch.

REALLY? I guess my dell 2405 can not do 1080p via componet. I will test that on my lvm-37w3 once it arrives. That is good to know save me som cash! *maybe I do not have to buy the vga adapter*
