Post your Oblivion pics here!

Anyone using OOO? It's nearly impossible to get your max stats per level and be able to kill stuff : /

This is really just a pictures thread, so ill post a pics and reply.

Something dodgy going on here!!

I use OOO and love it to bits, but when you start off it is quite hard. And its supposed to be. Of course if your a new adventurer, freash out of jail with no life experiance, your going to have a bit of trouble beating bandits and evil do-ers.

As for leveling, I did end up getting a +5 to all mod as leveling in OOO is alot slower, so micro managing to get the +5 stats can be hard and bothersome.

The keys to making it a bit easier to survive in OOO are potions/skrolls/ingredients, your gear and running away (especially in the direction of help). I got lucky an found a legion soldier wailing on some bandits and smugglers early on, and got to pick their bodies clean.

Hey Rock and Roll, are you using any parallax mods? If so, what's the performance hit?

Like Droopz said, you will notice some difficulty early on and may even have to back out of a few dungeons till you level up. I'm using OOO normal leveling and am doing fine, level 17 as of now. For about the 10 first levels I had a bit of trouble and couldn't dive recklessly into a forest/dungeon.

Don't want to run into one of these guys alone, at least not when you're only level 17.

Naw I'm using OOO and it took till about level 7-8 to where I felt more comfortable in dungeons and what not. I think its so much better like this.

I'm a huge fan of OOO as well. To me, it is the way the game should have been made. I'm at level 11 right now and I feel pretty good in almost any fight I get in. I like getting my butt kicked every now and then though because then I know that I still have some things to work on. Much different than vanilla Oblivion.

Qarl's texture pack 3 has just been released, amounting to a 1.7GB download. Hopefully some of you rich folk can take some pictures showing off its beauty. :)

Yep, I've released Qarl's Texture Pack III :)

screenshot1 screenshot2 screenshot3 screenshot4 screenshot5 screenshot6 screenshot7 screenshot8

The purpose of this package is to make TES IV: Oblivion look even better than when you bought it. To do this I've created new textures, normal maps, specular and parallax maps to replace a large number of those in the game with ones which are higher resolution and more photorealistic, while at the same time still very close to the original feel of Bethesda's intentions. Replacement meshes are also included to use parallax mapping. However, due to the increased resolution, machines with lower-end graphics cards may see severe slow-down with this mod.

Features:

* Most textures are 4 times the size of the originals. Some, even more. This makes things seem much clearer and sharper in-game.
* A large number of meshes have been altered to take advantage of the game engine's parallax shader.
* Only parts of the mesh which NEED parallaxing have the parallax flag enabled. This removes unwanted artifacts parallaxing can cause around corners.
* Textures which use the parallax shader have been altered at the mipmap level so that things look very 3D from a distance but do not get the soupy artifacts associated with the parallax effect when viewed close-up.
* Advanced normal map techniques used to make landscape textures seem very 3D.
* Landscape color maps and normal maps edited at the mipmap level to reduce the tiling effect in the distance.
* Mesh fixes from the Unofficial Oblivion Patch are included.

Things retextured:

* Architecture
* Landscape
* Rocks
* Dungeons
* Blood splatters, falling snowflakes, butterflies
* Furniture, and other medium-sized clutter

Things NOT retextured:

* Clothes, armor, weapons, creatures, NPCs
* Foliage, the sky
* Kvatch, the Arena, and the Oblivion realm

Qarl - how much of a performance hit is your latest pack?

I got the TOTO and it made Oblivion unplayable

Specs:
x1900xtx @ 730/840
s939 single-core @ 2.95 ghz
2GB DDR @ 250 MHz
7200.10 sata

:confused:

Hmm, with your setup it should work great -but I would have thought the TOTO stuff would've worked great on your system as well.

Well, I guess it's the price to pay for 1920x1200 :(

I'm runnin Catalyst 7.1, might try omega drivers too

It is strange - even vanilla oblivion fps drops to 15 in some parts outside (especially anvil)
I do have 'natural environments', 'cities lit and night' and 'live translated' mods enabled :confused:

PS: I like the concept of OOO, but I went back to original because I'm lvl 3 and it took be 40 minutes at 300 arrows to kill a few bandits - no thanks :D

Well I couldn't resist my temptation... here are a few pictures with Qarl's new pack.

I am using everything other than the building textures, at least I think so. Wasn't much of a FPS hit even. It is safe to say that I will never go back to TP2 after seeing these in motion. Great work Qarl, and I will be awaiting your tomb mod.

where can you find it.. Ive only found it on one place and Im not a member there :( and it appears you have to pay to get stuff even worse.... hope more areas start to offer it 2 gigs or no.

Qarl wishes to keep the distribution under control incase he needs to make a change to the texture pack. I do believe he will be upping it to Elricm.com (great site). PlanetES is free and has a good download speed. Just register, it's free.

Few more pics of random things:
Into battle we go! (We both died...)

Took a picture of this guy earlier, looks much better now. :)

Also, I'm now using the full TP and haven't noticed much of a FPS drop (was using a modified TP2 before). Oblivion is just breathtaking now.

Cool dj! *this place needs WAY more smilies*

I take it your 7800GT is 256MB? That's good news for a lot of folks!

If its worth anything Qarl, youve made a believer out of me =) I'm gonna download the texture pack and get it installed. Is it hard to install? I was looking at installing a different pack earlier, and I remember there being a lot of steps involved, so I didnt install it. Is there anything else I need besides the texture pack?

The only thing tricky is if you have either my beta of QTP3 or have a previously installed mod that installs parallaxed meshes. More info in the readme.

Just wanted to show this 2MB GIF animated comparison of terrainhdrock03.dds and its normal maps:

terrainhdrock03_n.gif

The only thing I have installed is a low-poly grass map pack. Will that cause a problem? I'm downloading as we speak, nearly 20% done (80 minutes left :p )

does the improved tiling for qarls and betterlod 4096 work fine, or do they use old textures from qtp2?

Installed the official patch, then ooo and the 1.31 patch. then qarls, are these grainy textures normal? I have AF on 16x, and 4x TRSSAA. All game settings maxed, + HDR. I tried turning aa, and af off, and played with various other settings. Also everything is ultra bright when hdr is on, and I'm getting massive slowdowns when it draws stuff in the distance. This is a new install of XP, I've never had any issues before.

Qarl, I was just wondering if I need to reinstall the low-poly map pack after I've installed your texture pack? BTW, it looks amazing. Thank you very much.

I downloaded the new QTP3, and whenever I attempt to open the .EXE it freezes my whole computer and needs a restart. Any idea why this is happening? Please don't tell me I have to download that whole huge honking file again... :(

Were you using TP2 before? Did you notice a performance hit?

After seeing "300" movie previews I made a spartan character. Usually he has short sword and tower of nine shield but I ran across this second and decided to take a screenshot.

Yeah, I had tp2 before, using 3 now, but I'm speaking of drawing trees and objects, for some reason it's not drawing them very far, thus causing the slowdowns.

Never think that you know too much to read the "read-me" for these mods. Qarl usually includes some very specific instructions on how to get his stuff installed correctly.

Also, I highly recommend that people make backups of their Oblvion install directory, before making major changes to the game, like QTP, OOO, Francesco's, or MMM. It's much easier to roll back to your old setting, then to have re-install the game, and all of your mods.

Edit: I just realized you were talking about the self extracting EXE that qarl has in the ZIP file. It's just windows. Seriously, go get a cup of coffee while this file extracts. I mean, 5 to 10 minutes should do the trick. I used WinRAR to handle these archives. In fact, I used WinRAR to go around his self-extracting EXE, because WinRAR could process it faster due to being multi-threaded

****56k Beware!****

I'm posting 30 1680x1050 pics here so you all can see what Qarl's Texture Pack 3 does versus the stock Bethesda textures. (Realizing that some of you may not want to download 1.75 GB) I took these screens with the intent of showing off what the textures will look like during normal game play, instead of just trying to show off how cool hi-res textures and normal maps look. All of the shots are with HDR, 4xHQAF, and no AA. These are the setting that I commonly play the game with.

IMO, Bethesda's textures win out overall, because their textures are less distracting. As well QTP3 doubles loading times and makes the game chug pretty hard when loading areas as you walk along. All testing and screenshots were done on the "Home Rig" in my sig. My other coexisting mods which affect visuals are:

Qarl's Skingrad Roof Textures
Capt'N'Kill's Distant LOD 4096x4096
Capt'N'Kill's 4096x4096 Border Regions.
All Armor
Martigen's Monster Mod
Francesco's Leveled Creatures
Francesco's New Items & Creatures
Qarl's Harvest
Rusty Items Retextured
Fine Weapons Retextured
Beautiful People
Natural Environment
Immersive Dark UI
