Free Vista Business / Office 2k7 pro (part deux)

Retail would have phone support. Read the paragraph on the back of the envelope.

Everything I've been told has led me to believe the license is a retail license. Even Mark Brown (the guy in charge of the whole promotion) seems to indicate so, although he might have just meant Office 2007.

I may have mentioned this before but this is not an OEM license but a Retail license.

Damn, if it isn't a retail license this is going to suck ass. I upgrade so often that my copy of Vista will be useless after a few months. :p

I don't remember offhand where, but I remember reading that the retail comment pertained to Office, and not Vista.

Got mine in RI last night. Had an issue on install - within the hour needed to reinstall on same box but to different hard drive. Online registration would not authenticate the copy, forced to call... Everything went OK from there, but is it OEM or retail, I'd say it looks retail, but picky as all hell. My copy also came in just a cardboard sleeve, not on a plastic tray like some others have gotten. Was a little scuffed, but worked fine. Much more stable than the RTM also. Not sure why that would be... isn't an RTM supposed to be the gold version? Whatever...

ahh so many conflicting here.
I was reading through the MSDN forums and from what I read is that it IS retail (page 13 of secret offer)

Im thinking that its going to be an OEM package with a retail serial/license. It would be cool to get the retail package but I wouldnt be disapointed if its just a cd sleeve with a warranty."

Mark Brown:

Yeah, its not an OEM package or a retail package. It will ship in its own CD mailer.

Glad you won't be dissappointed in that. Its the real deal product-wise. Sorry I couldn't get those fancy packages. Their bad for the environment anyway

I signed up for Both Office 2K7 and Vista and I am still waiting. Seems like those that applied for both offers have to wait a little longer. Are they going to send us something to complete the W9?

can somebody just install and register this on two computers already LOL!

That's great. Publicly ask somebody to do something illegal and then post on it. You just asked them to ban themselves.

I don't think he meant this in an illegal, use-it-simultaneously-on-two-systems kind of way, I think he meant, install it on one system, register it on that system. Then install it on another system, register it on the other system, in order to see if it is retail. (Retail license should activate on any system if I'm not mistaken, where OEM would allow activation only on the first).

huh?

You also had an answer in the other thread, in the OS forum, asking this very question.
The answer that you directed me towards isn't a definitive answer. The post underneath it said MS reported these versions using the retail $$$ values.

I received my free Vista Business DVD today. It is the 32bit version, as I had assumed it would be. On the cardboard sleeve the DVD is in it says you can upgrade from this version to Windows Vista Ultimate for $139 and thats probably what I will do so I can use the media center features as well. But as I don't intend to actually install this thing for a while I'll have to wait to comment on that.

Just wanted to drop everyone a note to let them know that it arrived. /wave

That's the impression I got right off. Too bad we have so many mini-mod wannabes that seem to thrive on any opportunity to jump down another forum goers throat nowadays. I assure you the [H]ard|Forums have NOT always been that way. Still, time changes things I guess and as we see more young folks here that's what we have to expect.

Anyway update on my scratched Vista DVD. I wiped it down with an alcohol wipe and turns out there are only a couple of real 'scratches' and the rest was glue or some residue from the paper envelope. The scratches are minuscule but deep, but the disc is perfectly readable and I made myself a backup just in case.

Now I'm just waiting for the new nVidia Forceware drivers before I format and install. :)

You should spend an extra $60 and buy an Ultimate license straight out. That way you will have two Vista licenses.

Every forum I've ever been to has that mentality - [H] included (even in the 90s, when I started hanging out here).

On topic: still nothing in CA. I installed an *ahem*thug copy of Vista Business, to see if I feel in any way restricted. Haven't so far. I guess w/having moved my TV cards to an HTPC and having no XBox, I don't really 'need' Media Center, so I'll prob still w/Bus. Just installed a trial of Office 2007 to play with it, too. I'm actually really happy with O2k3, but might as well test it out. Will prob end up with 2 copies, since I plan on going to a launch party, too.

I have been very pleased with Office 2K7 so far. The ribbon actually makes sense and the auto preview of styles and font changes just by hovering over item is really cool. I am actually ending up with three copies of Office 2K7. I am getting the copy from power together and I got 2 from the Office / Vista Launch. They put two redemption tickets in my package and I'll be damned if I was going to pass up the chance to get a second copy. This now allows me to have legit copies on mine and my wife's machine as well as a spare for when my mom wants to finally upgrade. :)

Still nothing, and I live in Minnesota, so I (apparently) should have been one of the first people to get it. Does anyone have an email address that I can contact about this problem?

It's not a problem that you didn't get them yet. Geographic region has no meaning here, because I'm sure they weren't all mailed the same day. Give it some time. People, including me, where just getting their's yesterday.

nothin for me in cali yet... for you guys who got both already, did you fax or mail the w9? I faxed it but with the volume of faxes they were getting... i dont really trust it.

I'm in the same boat. I faxed mine in on the 10th and I haven't received anything yet. Maybe I'll mail mine in on Monday, just to be sure.

Just got mine, I live in Northern California. Installing now.

Thank you MS!!!

Got mine, Vancouver British Columbia Canada (got them to mail to a postal outlet @ Point Roberts WA and picked up there)

call them up and ask for it. they'll charge you for shipping which is prolly like $5 or so. otherwise if you have the RTM version, you can install the 64bit version off it. it worked for me. got it activated and everything on my comp.

Yes, everyone is only getting the key for Office 2k7 - even at the launch events.

I mailed my W9 in, and got nothing today, in CA.

That's how Office 2007 will be given out at the Launch Events as well. I'm going to one in Philly on Tuesday, and it will only be a key and a download URL.

got my key in the mail today as well for Office 2k7... had to download, only 388mb...

Hey, does anyone know that if I install and activate the VISTA on my computer now, will I be able to activate on another computer in the future? (OEM or Retail).

I Got Office 2007 Professional BUT I did not get the DISC. I only got the CD KEY!! Is this Normal

Just type in the URL on the mailer they sent you. It's right above the keycode and it is a direct link to the complete O2K7 install file. Their server is pretty zippy today. Only took me about 7-8 minutes for the 388MB file. Burn that file to a CD a voila! Just like Mom used to make. Problem solved.

Got my Office 2007 yesterday. Key only like everyone has already said. Now I have to figure who to give my Office XP set to.
