Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

so what all do i need cable wise if i just want to use the speakers that comes with the Westy. I will be getting a cable box to watch HD programming; I'm not sure what connectors the cable box has but I assume they are all pretty much the same.

You'll have to wait and see what type of audio out the cable box has on it.

If it has HDMI, then that should send the video and sound to the Westy.... an HDMI cable and you're done.

If it has DVI, then you'll need to get sound to it another way (analog or optical).

Analog:
I'd guess if the cable box has an analog port (which I'd hardly think it wouldn't), it will be the typical L & R RCA type connectors. These are the same thing that has been on stereo equipment for years.... you'll just hook L to L on the Westy, and R to R on the westy with a RCA to RCA pair of patch cables.

Optical / digital audio:
IF for some reason, the cable box only has digital / optical audio... then you're in a bit of trouble, as the westy doesn't have optical audio in. At that point you'd have to get a stereo receiver with optical inputs, or some kind of convertor box to get it to analog and into the westy.

The cable box would also probably have Component outputs, which probably include analog audio out. But, you'd want to use a digital format for the video if possible. If it has component video with audio, you could probably use the audio jacks from that output.

Actually, if anyone knows of a cheap Toslink to analog audio converter, I'd be interested in one for another project. I've seen more 'pro' ones that run a few hundred dollars... but I'm thinking if they put these inputs on whole stereo receivers for $100ish... that actual part can't be all that expensive.... wondering if anyone makes just a Toslink to stereo RCAs or something like that for cheap. Thanks.

I currently have a 2407 so when I get the Westinghouse I'll take a couple pictures to compare the two. I can hook up the 2407 via VGA and the Westy via DVI so you can get a real good comparison. My Westinghouse will be about 3' away from me so I'll let you know how that works out as well. I am a little concerned as well that it may be too big and is a reason why I havent sold my 2407 yet. But if all goes well as I am hoping then there is no looking back....I just cant wait to see the look on my wife's face when she sees the new screen. She already calls the 2407 a movie theater screen. :D

Yeah let me know how it goes. I'm thinking about selling my dell 2405 and picking up the 37

OMG!

I told work I would be late to wait for FedEx. Got here at 9:30 est. The box at first had some damage, so I was a little freaked, BUT, Buydig.com had dbl boxed it, so I had the FedEx lady help me take the westinghouse box out of the dbl boxing. Perfect. I took delivery, set it up to check for any dead pixels etc. PERFECT. I am on it as we speak. Using my old 9800 pro, DVI connect. I had gotten the monstor 2m DVI too, only 69, so not much more thanthe monoprce, or whatever. I have another week or so to get my Maingear F131 that I have ordered, that this monitor is for anyways.

ALL I can say is DAMN! Monstorous!

I have it on the floor atm too, as I need a new desk for this badboy, but really folks. Freaking amazing. GORGEOUS!

Interesting: My firmware on this is 1.8 ? I thought they went backwards to 1.0 being the final? hmm..will research. I will say that my skeeriness with using buydig.com was alleviated. They shipped the same day I ordered, Using FedEx, and they delivered as promised!

total spent was 1379 = 1199 monitor, 69 monstor dvi, 129 3 year ext warr.

LOL

My wife is gonna poop her pants when she see's this!

W00T!

well..my firmware shows as 1.8

And I believe that that buydig had just received this, and only a couple when I placed my order placed my order Monday 1/15, so, I'm thinking quite possibly, that 1.8 is the newest firmware

So far my google skills are the loose trying to validate that. Anyone know?

Damn, I am soo happy I went with this! It PWNS!

Ill be picking mine up tomorrow after finally tracking one down.My question is will my 8800 GTX be up to task at pushing this beast with the latest games?

Absolutely without a doubt, I had the BenQ 24" for a week which runs @ 1920x1200, not a game i tried that wouldnt run smooth as butter with my 8800gtx. The cards a devil.;)
After a 3 day delay with Newegg mins is shipping out today apparently. Ive dealt with them countless times and never had one problem, this Westy has been a major p.i.t.a for some reason. I called them AGAIN today to see why i was still at stage 1 and the girl said "oh, for some reason its just sitting in the warehouse, ok, i just pushed the verification through so it should be on track now" hmm, someones slacking i do believe.
Ah well, it'll get here one day.

I have this monitor. All I have to say is if you can buy it, Go for it!!! I love it. :)

Just called AIT and they said it should be in NY tomorrow and then they will call on Monday to schedule a drop off time :( (Guess they dont do deliveries on the weekends)

it seems to be taking a little long to get it here considering they charged $100 for shipping. the one guy bought from buydig.com and already has his and he didnt even pay for shipping.

also, will a 7800gtx512 be able to handle this thing?

I just recieved one from buydig.com w/version 1.0 fyi

anonuser...

you just received yours too?..when exactly? Today? ordered this week? or last week? I ordered mine 1/15, received 1/19 ( well actually would have been 1/18, but I was not home @Microsoft Vista Launch ) so they delivered it today, 1/19 and mine is 1.8

anyone have any luck determining the newest firmware for these?

I may call Westinghouse to see.

Good question: Which Firmware rev. is best or latest. I'm hearing 1.0 as latest (wtf?) and now heard some folks have a 1.8 rev.?
My rev. is 1.5, and the only issue I have is that the PIP source/sub doesn't stick, and neither does the sound input. Would be great if one of the later revs allow the PIP settings to stick (including sound source). Anyone with this monitor/firmware rev./setup care to comment?

pip settings dont stay for any version..and the version # is nothing more than a manufacture date

I spoke with AIT today and they said that the monitor should be delivered some time on tuesday. that kind of upset me a little bit because I paid $100 for this shipping and its going to take over a week to get it.

I then spoke with the folks over at newegg and went back and forth a little with them and they gave me a $40 credit for the inconvenience. :D I didnt ask for it but they offered and i took it. I just wanted to let them know I was displeased in the shipping service especially when I paid a premium for it. I didnt expect it over night but more like 3 days would have been expected - not 8 days later. I guess that will bring my total for the monitor and 3 years extended warranty to $1339

The first part of that I can believe- though it would be easy enough to verify if one of the posters with the 1.8 rev could relate their direct experience. The second part (about hardware rev. only being related to manufacture date) cannot be true. I've read the same "that's what they told me on the phone" story you possibly have, but I take that with a grain of salt. If you have access to any other substantiating information, please bring it forward. Otherwise, don't perpetuate false information.

im only telling your what 2 reps from Westinghouse told me(over the phone) now im not sure what your mean by "access to any other substantiating information" but that about as reliable as it gets..."right from the horses mouth" id say...you asked a question...i gave you an answer, thx for playing :)

You left the bit about you making a phone call and talking to two different reps out of your OP. That's what I'm asking for in the way of substantiating info. Thanks, but the game isn't over.
Did you ask either of the reps to explain how a two digit number, eg. 1.6, can be used to specify a manufacture date? Or if that is all that the number means, then how do they differentiate between firmware revisions?

Well, I was one of the many that got in on the Conn's $999 sale last week. The box barely squeezed into the back seat of my Malibu. This was an upgrade from a Dell 2001FP (and 2 21" CRT monitors on either side of it) and I must say... I have never had an experience like I have with this thing. Colors, blacks, brightness, everything is better than the Dell. And being set for 1080p HDTV if I ever choose to upgrade to it is very nice. It's not quite the 2000 lumen projector and 10 foot screen setup that I have had before, but this is way better resolution and much brighter if I want it that way. Well worth the money. And to think, I was considering just upgrading to a 24" widescreen... I was foolish to consider anything else.

oh yeah... and a random quick snap of the setup, with the old 2001FP sitting next to it.

Beautiful lol,

Did you order from newegg? Their tracking for this thing blows, I don't know if the plane crashed or what but they havent updated me in over 4 days.

based on my experience...the next time it is updated...it will say "out for delivery"
then your heart rate increases. :)

Retaliation,

I have spoke with the phone reps from Westinghouse and they are nothing more then 8$ an hour morons who have no idea what they are talking about. I believe you plenty that they said that, however the only way you are going to get valid information is either from a technician or a developer from Westinghouse, not from a call center representative.

Well.... I'll soon be a member of the club.

I got shipment confirmation from PCNation.com this evening. I ordered it late in the day on Thurs. They called Friday AM to confirm the info, and shipped in the evening. 3-day fed-ex for free... so should be here Wednesday according to fed-ex.

Great price, and the PCNation people were very nice to work with. My only concern (looking at the fed-ex tracking, is it shows the weight of the package to be 43 lbs. That is supposed to be the weight of just the screen sans the stand. Package should be like 65 lbs. according to Westinghouse site. Hmm...

Well, maybe that is just some kind of entry error or something... everything else looks correct. I guess I'll find out Wednesday. Now I have to quickly get some cables ordered... LOL.

Well, after my first 48 hours with the Westy, I couldn't be happier. :D On closer inspection, there is actually one stuck pixel, actually, about halfway through the left border and the center, but I don't see it from where I'm sitting (3.5 feet away) so it's just like not having it. I won't even bother trying to rub it away.

Upscaled DVDs through Xbox 360 look unreal, as does everything else. I had a generic cheapo VGA cable and exchanged it for a Monster----makes ALL the difference in the world. Yes, Monsters are overpriced as hell, but who cares. Great stuff.

<~ I care, now if I were bill gates rich, I wouldn't care. Who wants to spend $50+ on cables you can buy from the dollar store?

You bought a monster VGA cable or a monster DVI cable?

The difference of PC output to the Westinghouse 37" with a VGA vs a DVI-D cable is night and day...

And you don't need a $60 cable for that... hit up monoprice.com

I have had this problem with newegg. Often when I order it is this way. It will show up on your doorstep before they update that thing.

Picked my Westy up locally today and have it up and running..OMG!!!!!Will report back after some tweak time with it but so far so good!!
BTW..My FW version is 1.0 and NO DEAD PIXELS confirmed by using Dead Pixel Tester. : )

VGA. I didn't even know Monster made DVIs.

I'm talking about Xbox 360. Who would ever connect a PC through VGA to this monitor, unless they had to?

And you don't need a $60 cable for that... hit up monoprice.com
I have a DVI to HDMI cable from Monoprice for PC use and it's great. The only reason I didn't get my 360 cables from Monoprice is they don't have them! ;)

Do I need to manually set a progressive resolution??I have my rez @ 1920x1080 and the Westy shows 1920x1080i.

Go into the nvidia control panel.. then go to TV/video settings, then change it manually to 1080p. It will look much clearer.
