It appears that Wal-Mart has spilled the beans on the Halo 3 Legendary edition.

The Helmet is about the height of a DVD case it looks like. The stand that the Helmet sits on seems to be able to hold 3 DVD/Game cases inside of it. The overall fit and finish seems good.

40 bucks extra over the regular version, that's pricey.

I wonder if its a limited run a-la burning crusade's collector's edition.

i remember that days when the bonuses were free... (pretty cool if you're a halo fan, but $40 extra is a lot!)

It comes with 3 Bonus discs, and the stand/figurine. The helmet is rougly a 10" square, so it isn't small, and it is made from the same stuff motocycle helmets are made from, so it isn't cheap either.

I would say 40$ more isn't unreasonable. I would certainly say expecting to get this as a free bonus is too much to ask for.

Most motorcycle helmets are made from standard construction helmet plastic. The exterior shell of a motorcycle helmet doesn't do anything except protect the high-density foam inside the helmet from the elements.

Some helmets designed to take really high impact speeds (such as racing helmets) are made from a fairly basic fiberglass shell. Nothing special. Interesting thing about helmets designed to take very high energy impacts is that they don't do as good a job at absorbing moderate impacts, such as highway speeds. But that's certainly OT.

Agreed on all counts, but here's my take: The game's the same any way you slice it, I just don't see the need for this. Don't get me wrong, I *used* to jump all over every collector's edition game that hit for any platform, but it's just getting retarded anymore, and I've started to realize that I waste far more money than I should on useless extras.

Just gimme the damn game already :). Well, and my hard drive so I can *save* my progress.

I agree that this isn't for everyone, hell it isn't for me. 60$ is enough for a game as is.

Same here bro, same here. I'm hoping they'll stick to their "first party games are $49", but I wouldn't bet on it. Halo's a big enough property that it'd sell just as well at $59 as $49, so you might as well scoop up the extra $10 a pop :)

Capitalism's awesome, but consumers are morons, LOL.

Have they followed that rule at all? I can't see them selling halo3 for 49 when it would sell out at 59. If they are currently following that rule, why is crackdown prelisted everywhere for 59?

That is pretty cool. But this would take up too much space.

Looks cool. I wouldn't mind having one, but I really have no place to put it...so I think I'll pass. Still, I can certainly see the draw.

Looks cool, but unless I have the extra money to just blow, sometime before the game comes out, I'll stick with one of the two cheaper editions.

Just for your "normal" titles, the big names like Gears of War have certainly dropped at $59. Of course, Gears was dev'd by Epic, so...

I'm pretty sure all the titles from Rare have dropped at $49, as did PGR3.

I'm not a HALO fan, but I'll probably end up buying that anyway, I'm a sucker for "collector's edition" stuff. Hell, I'd buy dog shit if it came in a holographic box...

word on the street is the master chief helmet fits on your average sized cat's head.

Just give precious Mittens a Battle Rifle and he's ready to kick some Flood ass.

Battle rifle? Please.

Give mittens a rocket launcher and a sword, then he'll really have a good time. :D

And I would say that those two "$40" items probably cost no more than $5 to make in China. I would expect those items to be free with the LE.
