Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

I returned my 32" LTV-32w6 for a dead pixel, and ordered the 37" for $999 from Buy.com, should be here tomorrow...can't wait!

Yes - you will get 1080p playback.

As long as you use a player like PowerDVD HD or something equivilent.

Thanks. I have my 360 with HD-DVD hooked up to my 55" HDTV. I use the Westy as my desktop monitor. I was thinking about buying another HD-DVD player for my PC. 360 + HD-DVD are located in my bonus room. Westy is in my office. Two different rooms.

Got the Westy 37" today, ordered from NewEgg on 12/22- the CO blizzard slowed delivery. The box was in great shape and the monitor is well packaged. It is huge as said before, sitting about 2.5' away from it and initially it was WOW.... played some COD 2, looks great, no ghosting that I can see, no dead pixels either. Outstanding monitor, highly recommended!

i want one sooo bad. seems like most places are outta stock and the ones that have stock are charging too much. :p

i hope they don't discontinue it... cause 37" is the perfect size imo.

got it 20 minutes ago. No dead pixels on this one. My 32" did have one. Box was pristine...THIS THING IS AWESOME!!!!

Getting ready to pack up my Westy to transport it to MPcon tomorrow. :D If anyone is going, you can see my 8800gtx tech demos on it, and full 1080p video because I'm bringing the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player as well, plus I have all my HDbits content. This is going to be crazy. I think its going to draw a crowd.. lol.

nice. i have that same mousepad ;). its pretty cool :). i want this tv so bad :(

well i just spent 500 bucks on computer upgrades (vid card, mobo, 2 new 400 gig drives). all i have to do is not spend on computers for 3 months. that way i have money left over for other stuff and save for this :D

http://www.slickdeals.net is your friend. I've purchased all of my tech stuff from either woot.com or slickdeals.net over the last 6 months. I don't even want to know how much in retail I would have spent otherwise. Oh, and actually, it was $999 -20 for Google Checkout + shipping, out of pocket, $1024.xx shipped to me. It also had a $100 mail in on it too. 1080P of 37" loving for $924.xx, shipped? Yes please. Linkage to the deal that I jumped on.

The 1080p w3? How did you get it for $999?

I got mine today too from Buy.com. They sent it from action currier which called and said they could deliver it Tuesday next week, but I instead just went and picked it up. I'll post pictures once I get everything setup. The thing is so huge, its almost as big as my jerker! (Ikea Jerker Desk) :p

No dead or stuck pixels!
Also its interesting its a v1.0, isn't that just the build date though for westinghouse's?

that's possible, I'm on there a lot too, and I went on a widescreen background search a few weeks ago, in prep for this screen. Also, technically, it is a background...not a screensaver. ;) Also, JohnleMVP: Version 1.0 is the newest, and FINAL hardware and firmware revision on this screen. They went backwards through the revision numbers, 1.6, 1.5, etc. I do not recall the exact order of the revisions, but I do know, for sure 1.0 is final revision.

Sabregen, are you actually sitting that close to the monitor?!? That looks like about 1-1/2 foot viewing distance... Don't you actually have to move your head to see the whole monitor from corner to corner?

I just picked up one of these from my somewhat local ShopKo for $799. ($855.99 after tax) I am using it as an actual TV (I have a Dell 3007FPW for my PC) and my 360 looks awesome one it and my Wii looks pretty damn good too. I am so happy to finally have a widescreen TV in my living room. No more damn black bars at the top and bottom.

I absolutely could not pass up getting a 37" 1080P TV for $799. I am very happy right now. :D I also have no dead or stuck pixels either.

um where's shopko? for that price I'll drive to wherever it is and pick it up haha...that's a steal for that price...

btw how are you using it as a tv? since it's considered a monitor w/ no tv tuner?

I haven't used a built in tuner for years. The only thing I plug into my TV is an HDMI cable and before I used HDMI it was component. Everything plugs into my reciever. Xbox 360 & Wii use component, my DVR uses a DVI to HDMI cable. My receiver converts the component to HDMI, so only one cable for a clean looking install.

Most of the HDTVs I have looked at don't have built in tuners, I think of them as a waste of money.

ah i c, so can you point the rest of us here in the direction of where a shopko is? =D

thanks!

I picked up the last one. I had to call 3 stores to find one that had it in stock. The nice thing about shopko is that they will hold things for you if you call.

I live in southern MN so there are 3 within a 1 hour drive.

For those that missed it, the $799 deal was posted in this thread the other day. That's where I got the idea to start calling around.

If any one has a Shop-Ko in their vicinity you might want to check this thread. It looks like Shop-Ko has them on clearance for around $800.

NexTag has this interesting price history graph... I just need to wait for the next 'dip'. :)

Of course, this doesn't catch some of the super deals like the ShopKo one. WOW! I'm in the S.F. Bay area, and almost considered driving to Reno (if they had, or could get one)... LOL. But, I think there are very few left now anywhere.

I'm hoping we'll see more deals after CES, or maybe the SuperBowl.

do you guys ever hear like popping/cracking sounds with this monitor occasionally? when it is off, I hear it. I don't notice it when it is on for some reason. I think it is just the plastic settling, but I hope it stops soon.

My guess would be that your backlight setting may be pretty high, and causing heat buildup. The heat would likely cause your screens parts to expand/contract due to heating up/cooling down. Just a guess. Try turning down your backlight, see if it still happens. Also, how long do you keep the screen on for, at a time? Hours, days?

Sweet I live around the Bay area as well :D

I'll upload and link when I get home. At work now, and the AF doesn't allow access to "personal storage networks" like photobucket. :D

Can someone please describe the base for me? I might put it on a wall eventually, but initially I'm thinking of trying to have it stand on top of my stereo receiver. I have a Yamaha HTR-5890, which seems pretty solid and is about 17" wide. From the photos of the monitor... the base looks about 18-19" wide, and just big and flat.

I'll do some research to see if there are warnings about weight on the receiver, but I figure it if is very evenly distributed, it would be OK. Are there little rubber feet under it at the corners? Or, just kind of evenly spread big pad? I might be able to put the receiver in the cabinet, but then have remote and cooling issues to deal with... so I'd make it work one way or the other, but am curious.

I had originally been looking at 24" LCDs, for which this would be no problem... but this one is quite a bit bigger. :) Thanks.

The base is 23 and 1/4" by 8". The base is flat, with cushioned feet in the corners, and middle. Weight is something like 70+lbs with base

Here's the background I promised:

Thanks... I guess I need to come up with plan B then. :)

Actually, 'only' 50 lbs with base... but that is still kind of heavy. But, the 23" with feet in corners isn't going to fit. I suppose I could put some kind of board or glass plate across to distribute the weight. I'll have to get inventive.

STEVE

I would highly advise AGAINST placing your display on top of your stereo receiver.

You want to leave your stereo receiver clear of any weight bearing or obstruction to air circulation.

If you're going to go as far as placing a board on top of the receiver, go ahead and fabricate a little stand to go above the receiver (keeping in mind that you want at least one inch from the receiver to the stand so that there's plenty of circulation for air).

If you spent that much money on your electronics, you want to take care of them.

You are probably right. With the 24" displays I was looking at, weight wasn't really an issue and they only covered a small percentage of the vent area. I guess the Westy would be too much. The problem is that if I put it in the cabinet, then I have another air circulation problem. Having a riser that is a bit wider than the Westy base, but clears the receiver might just be the perfect solution... thanks! :)

Heres my Westinghouse setup so far.
I had to adjust my desk quite a bit to get the westinghouse to fit. I didn't think it was that big.
I'm still working on setting up a 21" WS monitor vertically to be on one of the sides, but I need a special stand for it to work.

I should be getting mine monday. I'd have it already if fedex had any common sense. I was just wondering what settings I should put it at? Thanks to some past posts I have a good idea at what to set the component and vga at, but I have no idea what to set the dvi and hdmi at.
