Went shopping for ram today, thought I could find a decent price for KingstonValueRam. Turns out PC3200 512mb 3-3-3 costs ~95 US  1Gb = 190 US

I'm broke :p

RAM isn't cheap stuff these days.

Of course, burner prices are falling like nobody's business.

I've heard that the Kingston Valueram PC3200 that is rated Cas3 will actually do like 2-2-2-6. Not bad for $142 Canadian for a stick of 512mb. $284 for 1024mb, but hey it's better then paying like $400 for Corsair TwinX that does Cas2, when I can pay like 60% of the price to get Cas2.

Keep in mind that the chance of getting BH-5/BH-6 in Valueram is and always has been very, very low. Getting CH-5 isn't that much more likely either. Value ram uses many chips...almost anything really. And most of those will NOT do 2-2-2- timings.

Nice Link, thanks dude. *bookmark*

Okay question here:
Buying rig soon (between 1-2 weeks). Wondering about ram, I want 1024mb of PC3200, I don't wanna spend much money though. I had Kingston Valueram in my cart (2 x 512mb), should I get that or something else? I'm buying from this site (www.vibecomputers.com) and this site only. My ram total was like ~$285 CDN, any suggestions? I'll pay a bit more, but no more than $300 for both sticks.

2x512MB OCZ EB PC3200 ($270 US?)...has new Micron 5ns chips that do tRCD of 2 consistently with enough voltage. Gives same or almost the same performance at 2.5-2-2- and 3-2-2- versus the BH-5/BH-6 2-2-2-. Shows CAS doesn't matter at all compared to tRCD. Good ram.

What rig are you going to be using it on? If you are going Intel I would get some A-DATA Vitesta PC4000. $100 US for 512MB and can go to 300 FSB 1:1 @ 3-4-4-8 ~3.2V.

Stupid Canadian stores price-gouging like Excaliber...
This is what I was talking about...OCZ EB PC3200. It's $450.20

I don't know what to recommend...if you want under $300 you'll have to settle for 2x256MB, which is not enough for games anymore....

Pretty much between:
-Corsair Valueselect 2x512mb @ ~$290
-Kingston Valueram CL2.5 2x512mb @ ~$335
-Kingston Valueram CL3 2x512mb @ ~$285

Might as well disregard the Kingston CL2.5, there's simply no point as almost all ram chips that Kingston would put into the CL3 ones will do at least CL2.5. So, Kingston or Corsair, probably doesn't make a difference I guess, right?

You have a better chance going into your local computer store and looking at Value Ram for the chips you want. No heatspreaders remember? :D You probably won't find BH-5/BH-6 but you might be able to find CH-5 and Hynix BT-D43.

I've had no reason to dislike the KVR. It's working at better than rated timings and speed, at default voltage. I've heard of some of the new batches of XMS and HyperX not doing this well.
