Temperatures WAY off on ASUS board. (pics)
Heatsink is almost ice cold to the touch, because I have quite a bit of airflow... but it's warm enough to tell that there's a CPU giving it some heat....
well, have a look at the pictures: Both screenshots are under full load (as you can see my 100% Cpu meter) ![]() Temp2 = CPU Previous setup with different motherboard: ![]() The only thing that's changed is the TIM and motherboard. Old = R.W.S. (Random White Shit) from around the house @ 117F (47C) Now = Arctic Silver 5 @ 200dgF (93C) Setup: WAS: ABit IC7 / Thermalright XP-120 / Panaflo M1A @ 100% IS: ASUS P4C800 Deluxe / Thermalright XP-120 / Panaflo M1A @ 100% The temperatures for the first screenshot were taken at stock board voltage and speeds, the second is overvolted and overclocked to 3.3Ghz (275x12) What gives?!

That's quite a bit of overclocking...but that's just my two cents

sure you seated it properly in the asus board?
Also, you saying you got a 1.2 pentium m upto 3.2 ghz ? (first screen shows speeds @ 1199mhz

2gigs of OC'ing...I'd think the temperature would go up
haha, Dont burn that chip up!

guys notice that's a mobile pentium 4 1.8ghz, not a pentium m. 3.3ghz shouldn't be too difficult for one of those with proper cooling. I've seen a desktop 1.7A @ 3.4ghz on air, so it's not outlandish at all. It's running at 1200mhz in that first pic because it's a 133fsb chip and he has it at 100fsb.
I'm thinking those are just crazy faulty readings...maybe because of the mobile chip?

It can't be because it's a mobile chip... read fine on my IC7.. maybe the IC7 was just a more advanced motherboard?

Hmmmm I didn't know speedstep worked on i875...I guess it does. Um...have you flashed to the latest bios? New bios releases often address temp reading issues.

![]() i875 doesn't support speedstep, it just uses the chip's lowest multiplier and won't let you adjust it... if it did support speedstep it would allow lower than 1.575V for vcore and would let you fully adjust the multiplier, but a little overvolting wouldn't hurt for more performance ![]() I tried flashing the bios last night with no success... and now that I have flashed the bios the onboard lan has been extremely sketchy... or it could be the POS linksys 4-port router I have... that little bastard's always giving me one problem or another.

But it's not a Pentium M... it's a Pentium 4-M which is a low-voltage northwood-based chip, It wants to go higher, but I can't find a motherboard that will do over 300FSB

Heh..Bro your ok...i have ran into the same problem's b4 with that board, and after moding over 30 of them i have seen all the weird crap, the max3 has the worst temp problem so it's just a mobo issue..settle down for me
ill get ya fixed up tonight.

Your CPU is fine. Trust me. The problem lies within faulty winbond chips (This is the chips in the lower right hand corner of the mobo, that is in charge of reporting fan speeds, temps, and voltages). I have the P4C800-E board and my temps will jump from 30-40C in 1second intervals. I e-mailed Asus multiple times about it but their support is so horrible that they didnt even reply a single time. I did some research on it and others with this board are having the same problem. NOT all P4C800-E boards do this though, just seems to be a few out of the whole line. Yes, its annoying as hell because you NEVER know the correct temp, but if you can get Asus to talk, or god forbid RMA it be sure to post back here.
PS. BIOS upgrades DO NOT solve this issue. PS^2. It seems that the Winbond W83627THF chips are the most prone to this issue. Good luck ![]()

OUCH! This is most definately a problem!
![]() It apparently is telling the cpu to throttle or something, any thoughts?

I dunno if the P4-M's have IHS's, and it might have the same problem as the DTR/Athlon 64 Mobiles, XP-120 brackets don't allow the heatsink to have a tight seal on the die, you have to sand down the corners.
