Sounds like spyware has iexplore.exe running in the backround w/o a window and has some buggy code. I'd look at the sticky in this subforum for spyware and go through the steps to remove it, if there is any installed.

When you shut down is iexplore.exe running? Is there a window for the process?

Shut down the process from task manager before you shutdown, then shutdown. Do you still get the error?

Also, what OS version and SP are you running?

Use the programs in my signature to scan for spyware/viruses. Update them before scanning . Use ALL of them.
