Hi

I have started to record a bit of my own gaming but i need a good mic, cuz the one i have now is realy bad..its and old Deltaco "swan neck" model from 1998 or so :D

I heard alot ofd Blue Yeti but found it a littel bit expensive here in Denmark, so i was wondering if there is any other good mic on the market for video recording and gaming. ?

Or if anyone knows any store that sells these blue yeti cheap and deliver to Denmark or "world wide"

Please enlight me cuz i am tired of white noise and this hisssssssing when i speak wityh my old jack stick mic :D

I am also interested, as I'm looking to record my milky smooth angel voice, and any imperfection in technology will dilute its sensuality.

But yeah, cheap is good. like $30-70 range.

I own both. The quality of the recording of the meteor compared to the yeti is comparable. The difference in the yeti is the option of changing the microphones sensor range. While this sounds great I believe most people once they set their mic probably won't alter the settings much. For the rare mobile Podcaster / streamer among us it's a plus worth the price but outside of that the Samsons and blue snowball series is fine.

If you are interested I can do a voice recording comparison of the blue and meteor for you to decide.

For the sake of being thorough for anyone who maybe interested in various types of mics for streaming or broadcasting, I did a quick recording via 4 solutions.

Testing software was Audacity. There was no normalization of the files. These are quick and dirty recordings with immediate connectivity and slight adjustments just in case the audio peaked. Levels may slightly vary but rather than volume, I suggest listening to recording quality and also range of the recording. There is Ambient noise from my computer and all it's fans, which when you listen to the files you maybe really surprised at what picks up the least amount of ambient noise.

Test 1 - Blue Yeti Microphone

Test 2- Samson Meteor Mic

Test 3 - Senheisser PC333D Gaming Headset

Test 4 - Logitech Webcam C920 built in mic (popular among streamers)

Hope these help you Psycrow. Oh btw your name reminds me of Earthworm Jim, which makes me happy :)

Thanks for your recordings
You have a nice voice..are you doing some radio shows ?
cuz you should :)

Both yeti and samson sound good but the samson meteor seems to pick up more ambient noise from ur fans and the yeti pick up your chair sqeeks :D or that last ending sound.

Can you buy some kind of noise protection for the samson or filters ?
or is there an option somewere to adjust that ?

I heard about this software "drivers"

And yes i stole that crows name cuz i like him :D
and i watched the cartoon back in the days were it was aired and played the games for super nintendo.

lol I teach and do public speaking :) Thanks for the comment about the voice.

You can buy filters for the samson, though to be honest the ambient noise in my room isn't super quiet.

I think if you wanted good results for a nice price check to see if you can get the Samson Meteor for a decent price over there, you probably won't be dissapointed.

Trent, it sounds like you were positioned a lot closer to the samson mic when you recorded those.

When shopping for better audio quality, you have to remember that a lot of it comes from things not even related to your mic. A good mic will surely help but removing noise, positioning yourself properly for your voice/volume/gain, using a boom stand and using things like a pop filter will make a really big difference.

Then there's the whole aspect of using audio applications to modify your voice (which can even be done live as you speak so it works for streaming), etc..

Removing hiss without software is really difficult. Your room would need to be dead quiet, no fan sound and no ambient sounds. You may even need to daisy chain your USB based mic to an adapter or extension to help eliminate vibrations from your computer traveling to the mic.

However, with a decent audio app you can run noise filters that do a very good job, even if if there's a ton of hiss.

A boom stand helps a lot for preventing it sound like there's an earthquake whenever you type too. An arm based stand that clamps to your desk will run you like $13.

For example:
Amazon.com: NEEWER Microphone Suspension Boom Scissor Arm Stand: Musical Instruments

Keep in mind you'll want to make sure it fits your mic first, and unless you're doing serious recording then it might be overkill because your friends in games probably don't care if your keyboard vibrates a bit.

The free alternative would be to put both your mic and keyboard on top of a folded towel.
