The USPTO is apparently a huge sucker for complicated-sounding language, as it continues to allow the patenting of simple ideas that are merely worded intricately.

"Ultimately this patent is one of hundreds or thousands of patents that don’t describe actual inventions, but rather just rehash old, obvious ideas 'on a computer' using confusing language," writes Ranieri. "The failure of the patent office to prevent this patent from issuing is regrettable, and shows just how dysfunctional our patent system is."

Maybe Xerox is hoping that the USPTO will finally have enough and not allow the patenting of ideas or "techniques" (including computer code).

They should automatically reject patents that aren't written in a language a 3rd grader can't understand
