I would have thought that the world’s largest social network would have played things safe from the onset.

Facebook already prohibits people from offering marijuana, pharmaceuticals and illegal drugs for sale, and the company said on Friday that it was updating its policy to include guns. The ban applies to private, person-to-person sales of guns. Licensed gun dealers and gun clubs can still maintain Facebook pages and post on Instagram.

Were these people advertising their guns on Facebook or something? How is Facebook even in a position to stop "private, person-to-person sales" of guns, or is any talk about guns on Facebook banned now?

It means if you post a gun for sale on your timeline and someone reports it, the post will be taken down. I assume if you do it repeatedly, they'll ban you. I'd also assume that eventually they'll have a way to automate the process.

Probably already automated to some degree. Not hard to have it look for keywords "sale, selling, firearms, guns" and assign a value. If all of the values added up go above a threshold it gets autoflagged for review. My guess.

Yeah, guns are the problem.

Meanwhile, in the Middle East, PEOPLE are chopping heads off of Christians and "non-believers".

And Farcebook will ban you if you speak out against it. Funny how it's only "hate speech" if it's coming from the "wrong" side.

They also chop off the heads of all the moderates who are fighting and resisting the radical extremist. It's not just a "Muslim vs non-muslim" thing as Faux and Trump will have you believe.

Yes. I belong to a private group Eastern Oregon Gun Private Gun Sales. We do lots of buy/sell/trade in there. Not anymore. They are working on getting things to where we can still do things, but comply with Facebook rules.

They've been pretty good. Even banned a couple people buying up ammo at Walmart and jacking the price up on the site.

Fox isn't mentioning that? My wife's Grandma knew that, and she is a Fox news only fanatic.

Because private sales of firearms are the same as illegal drugs... Fucking libtards

So just because they're not allowing the sale of firearms on the site, that makes them liberal? Guess that makes [H] "liberal" like FB then.

As per the FS rules right on this site:
(20) No ALCOHOL, tobacco, firearms, weapons of any kind or pornography (anything that can be classified "Adult Material") are to be sold here..... nothing that is governed by the Federal Government as interstate trade. Likewise, no pharmaceuticals, legal or otherwise, can be sold here.

Don't like the rules of the site? Don't use it.

Story says FFL are acceptable.

No, generally the theme around here is more liberty minded, not liberal.

Where can I buy a minigun?

Where can I buy a minigun?

You'll need a class 3 tax stamp and permission from your local sheriff before you even begin to ask such questions, as well as $250k+. There aren't many of them floating around the legal civilian world. When one does pop up on auction, they go sky high, very quickly. The M134 is pretty bad ass.

Surprised that I have yet to see someone claim this is an example of how Obama is taking everyone's guns away.

Most businesses won't allow private gun sales on their property..

It's against the rules on this forum, too.

Ever wonder why that is?

People don't want the blowback if there's a shooting attached to a site. But it's the political climate, the grandstanding and left wing psychosis that's the source of the blowback.

I think this is a lot of it. The political climate. If there is a shooting, the last thing someone wants is "It was bought off Facebook". Responsibility doesn't fall on the individual anymore. They have to place blame somewhere....

While private sales of firearms are unregulated by the Federal government, a for-profit company seen as "facilitating" sales could be stepping in a legal minefield. An open, public forum like FB is probably safe from legal ramifications, but many companies make these policies to be "safe."

The actual reasoning given by FB shows that it is not a CYA move by lawyers, but a politically motivated move. They mentioned that some illegal transactions taking place, but give no quantification as to how many did. SOP for those who are politically inclined against firearms, to use one or two extreme examples as a justification to stop the legitimate activity of thousands.

i can see them blocking illgeal activity, makes sense

but if the gun transfers are legal i fail to see the issue. if i sell a gun to someone with a legal license here in Canada and they go shoot up a school its not my fault, id feel bad but buying from me with that license is no different than if they walked into walmart

What does FB gain by allowing sales? Using the U.S. as an example, only 1 in 3 people own a gun. How many of them are buying and selling guns? Ok now how many of those are buying/selling on FB? Why open yourself to being associated with a crime when you gain nothing? Answer: you don't.
