Tweets that are 10,000 characters long? Could you imagine trying to read a 2,000 word tweet?

The San Francisco company is apparently exploring different tweet lengths that go well beyond the 140-character limit that's been the hallmark of the 10-year-old microblogging service. Twitter is currently looking at capping tweets at 10,000 characters (or about 2,000 words), though that could change, according to a Tuesday report from Recode, which cites multiple people familiar with the plans.

Ehhhh isn't short messages what Twitter is about?

Yes, so short that they can't possibly convey anything useful. They're treading a dangerous line here, what if they make Twitter a useful communications platform?

Then it becomes like any other social network and doesn't have its niche anymore.

People who post really long tweets usually do so in image form (Example). I guess allowing more text would not hurt, but it's up to Twitter.

If it ain't broke...

Might as well change their name to Babble or Ramble at that point.

I could see maybe a little longer, but after awhile like others said they are moving away from what the platform is and turn it into tumblr instead.

hmm, they should have a way of posting longer tweets but have it limited somehow. Twitter is all about being short messages
