This reportedly won’t debut until at least 2020, but it’s good to see that companies are continuing to make steady progress on prolonging the on-time of our devices.

High-capacity batteries provide longer run times for smartphones and other devices while taking up the same amount of space. Sony's version could power the latest Apple iPhone, the 6s, for 14 hours while the device is connected to the Internet, calculations show. Batteries could also be made 30% more compact while maintaining current run times, letting manufacturers build smaller devices.

So expect Apple to start a lawsuit against Sony, because sometime in the past they actually got a patent for "battery that's better than existing technology"

Maybe. At the least, we know Sony is violating Apple's patent on magic.

Instead of longer battery life, they will just make the phone 1mm thinner by using a smaller battery.

Sounds like it'll be dead on arrival. By the time this comes out, cellphones will be as powerful as most modern laptop. It'll be drain the new battery at a similar pace as the current one.

Bingo. It'll just end up in phones with small batteries instead of a phone that actually has better battery life.

It's using thinning material to increase capacity and not size. It's something they've been doing with LiPo for a while
