It's kind of hard to believe that these scumbags were making this kind of money. Among other things, the feds confiscated close to $300k and a Ferrari F430. The trio is facing 30 years in prison and a boatload of fines.

Three men from Florida, New Jersey, and Maryland were charged today with a wide-ranging computer hacking and identity theft scheme that compromised the personally identifiable information (PII) of millions of people and generated more than $2 million in illegal profits, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.

Why does cybercrime exist?

Because of payouts like this--for every story where the feds bust a cap, there's tons where they don't.

I always said, if I had to choose one skill to be the best at it would be hacking. Get any degree/grades you want, any documents, money, etc.
