More Trouble For Uber In Australia

Australia might not be the best place to be an Uber driver right now. I mean, if they are conducting sting operations to bust Uber drivers, the company might want to rethink things until they get approval to operate there legally.

An Uber driver in the Australian state of Victoria was convicted on Friday for operating a commercial vehicle without a license, in a decision the local transport minister said confirmed the illegality of ride-sharing services in the state. Brenner was the first to face court among 13 drivers accepting paying passengers via the UberX service, after they were caught by the hire car regulator in a sting operation last year. A similar ruling is expected for the other drivers.

Yet again, the arrogance of this company astounds.

Just because you're popular, just because you're "innovative," doesn't mean you can skip the line and ignore routine (dare I say boring) licensing requirements.

Unless, of course, the only "innovation" is to find ways to operate outside labor laws to increase profits...

But of course, who cares, because technology!

What does the license give the customer? Proof that you're not going to be raped or killed by the driver?

If so, then you'd be suing the issuer of the license if either case happened.

Business license is just another form of taxation. That's all. It add ZERO to the service quality. In fact, it probably removes quality as it's another needless expenditure that could be spent in a better way.

Statist claptrap.

My car is my property and if I want to use MY car to give people rides for money, that is my right to do so because I own it.

I guess I should elaborate. No, you cannot just use your personal vehicle as a taxi because you own it. You would require insurance and the proper licensing to do so. Doing whatever you want and doing what's legal aren't the same.

Yes I can. It is MY VEHICLE. Do you understand? MY VEHICLE. I can set the conditions for other people using it because it is MINE. Licensing and insurance requirements are a trespass on MY PROPERTY.

It may be your vehicle, but those aren't YOUR ROADS you are wanting to drive on.

THOSE ROADS are owned by the citizens, and citizens mandate a provisional body of law that is given the power to enforce standards, protocols, specifications etc for the greater good of the community.

Damn anarchists.

Fucking statists.

Those roads are built with stolen money and resources and therefore the state has no legal claim to them.

Wow, calm down. It might be your car, but you consent to obey certain laws by participating willfully in our society. Lots of those laws deny you the ability to do whatever you want with your car. It has to meet like certain safety standards and you can't legally go faster than a certain speed because you might kill someone else with it. In fact, it's kinda funny that you make such a pouty claim because I betcha that you obey traffic laws and even if you don't wanna which makes your angry-face rant pretty much a lie anyway.

Um taxes are collected from consenting adults that live in the nation that levies them. If you don't wanna pay them, move to a nation that doesn't have taxes. Oh wait, there aren't any. That's because, the entire bazillion years of human history demonstrates that the cute little theory you bought into is just as much of a fairy tale as Santa Clause. So either leave or shut up and pay your taxes. No one wants to hear you use nonfunctional societal theory as a justification for your whining. It just makes you come off as less of a normal grumpy old guy and more of an insane cultist. I swear what is it about a penis that makes some people lose all sense and reason regarding organized government just by having one?

I think, or at least hope the guy arguing that he should be able to do anything he wants is joking.

I don't know, I agree with him. Obviously, there are barriers, like when they infringe on others with their antics. But the car is his property, to use to escort another should be his right imo. The taxi license is pretty bull imo. They didn't use to have them, and Taxi companies started it to gain control over it.

Now, I have no idea if rape/murder have lessen due to it or not. I never looked it up, and quite frankly I doubt there is any accurate info out there. But those taxi pins or whatever was started for a reason, and it wasn't to keep people safe.

Roads are definitely something that is built with tax money, and therefore should belong to everyone. But I don't know what they are considered as. I'm sure his comment on "stolen" is that if you don't pay your taxes, you get fucked by the government, which is basically collection at gun point. You can't withdraw from it and not use the roads or whatnot, unless you're a racist old white man that owns a farm and tons of women to line up and block bullets for you.

You CAN use your vehicle to transport people, for a fee.. sorta.

example: I give my buddy a ride to the store and he gives me cash for gas.

Advertising your vehicle as a taxi makes you a business, which requires you to follow the rules for that type of business.

I don't consent to pay taxes and I don't recognize the state's ownership of the land that I am on (scribbling imaginary lines on a map does not equate to ownership). An inability to resist does not equal consent. Saying it does is like saying that a rape victim is consenting to sex because she wasn't able to resist her attacker.

The point remains that if you think it's rape to have to pay taxes (trust me on this, they're incomparable things and to try to compare paying taxes to non-consensual sex in any sort of serious manner speaks volumes about how selfish and lacking in empathy you are for victims of sexual assault -- but that's a topic for another day when the usual idiot troop is stomping out their typical male clueless rape bullshit on this forum) then you also should know that the US government is going to do nothing about it when you feel like you're unjustly persecuted. In that case, do what any smart woman would do, leave. Go away. It's really, really inexpensive to go someplace else.

However, the point remains that you CAN'T go somewhere that doesn't have a system of taxation in order to fund public services. You know that's true which is why you avoid addressing it directly when you respond to anyone that brings it up. Ultimately, you're not non-consenting at all. Privately, you know that you're too much of a coward to do anything but bellyache and moan on a nerd forum. You also know that you'll never do more than sit here and try to swing a broken theory about how people should interact that has consistently worked in exactly zero cases anywhere on the planet in the entire course of human history. So please, spare us the idealistic dreamer whining for something that doesn't exist and stop trying to present yourself as a victim. No one but the few other people that also read and bought off on your pesudo-religious worship of a non-functional societal model think of you as anything other than a clueless nutter. Standing on the corner preaching something even you know as nonsense won't change that no matter how loudly you complain.
