What would be left of the internet if Google removed one billion "pirate" search results? Well, besides a lot of porn. There would still be tons of that...so I've heard. :D

Copyright holders have asked Google to remove more than 1,000,000,000 allegedly infringing links from its search engine in recent years. The remarkable milestone, reached this week, is at the center of an ongoing debate over how search engines are expected to deal with pirate sites.

So has that solved the piracy issue? Maybe a few billion more needs to be removed...

Great so the only sites left for people who need google to find stuff will be the fake sites that might have you fill out a few surveys and install their custom "download installer" which they probably will do out of sheer stupidity.

I think google actually does the public a greater good by leaving the legit pirate sites up!

It's ridiculous that the law even requires this of a company. Why should Google have spend time and resources on fixing somebody else's problem? These companies that are so against piracy should have to do the work themselves of filing individual take down notices for each bad torrent. Too much work for them? Well guess what it's also too much work for the 3rd party companies like google who are simply suppliers of raw search results. Also, search results should be neutral.

And in the end, it wont solve anything, people usually have their sources for getting stuff and don't use google.

I'm getting really tired of the click-bait news webpages. :( They should be downranked to hell in the search results.

Google should accidentally remove the copyright holders websites from their search results. Seriously, Google should simply ignore these requests, it's not their problem to deal with.

Perhaps the big companies submitting take downs should run a search engine of their own to compete against Google and show to courts an example of how a search engine should be. Then, their search engine should be scrutinized to the 9th circle

I hope Google complies... so slowly but surely we all migrate to a different company that won't fall for that shit.
