Hold it right there, so you're saying there's no waiting on hold for an hour? No repeated transfers and "accidental" disconnects? No retention specialist doing everything but what you ask them to do? This sounds almost too good to be true.

A new service is hoping to expedite that harrowing process for you, among many other aggravating ordeals that could tie you up on the phone for hours and leave you exhausted, or incensed, afterward. AirPaper will handle all the nastiness of nixing your Comcast plan for a mere $5. $5 for peace of mind and a bit of sanity feels like a steal.

Just drop the shit off at the local cable office when you are out doing errands. Seriously, it's not that hard.

At best, that will cancel your equipment rental fee..I would bet money you would be charged for service still.

What unwashed third worlders does this company use to actually do the hard part .. gotta wonder.

It's not too terrible if you're moving. I mean, less painful than breaking a leg.

I haven't had any trouble when I cancelled comcast. When it was just cable, I told them I was moving in with someone who already had cable, and it was a short call. When I had a cable modem, I brought the modem to the local office, and it didn't take too long there either (other than I think I had to wait for a representative). I did get a bill after that that said I was late and they were going to cut off my service, but I called and they said it was a mistake, and the next day or so I received a corrected bill, so it was probably already in the mail.

Never had trouble canceling cable. I think I even just had to drop off at a UPS store or something. It was almost like they didn't give a shit if 1 lowly customer left.

When I canceled Xbox Live years ago, now that was a hassle. Had to call a human, who then tried to talk me out of it. There was no online to option to cancel. I don't know if that has changed.

After the last shit storm of canceling Comcast I would certainly pay.

Have you actually ever dealt with Comcast? They will find a way to screw it up.

It's super easy now. Microsoft has fixed all of this with their subscriptions. You can enable or disable them (Office, Xbox, etc) online.

Imagine how much money Comcast could make if they charged $5 to cancel you with no hassle.

The last time I did that I walked in and there were about 15 people waiting and two of the three customer service people decided they were going to lunch. I waited in line about 30 more minutes to return my equipment, and by that time the office had just about filled up with more customers.

The fact this is so why spread that a companies business model is based off of it is scary. Comcast is probably going to take note and will offer to expedite the disconnect process for a $4 fee.

The only people who have difficulty canceling services like this are just total pushover pussies. I just canceled comcast the other day because I'm moving to a new state, thinking that I needed to do this to qualify for a new promotion. Of course they transfer me to a "retention specialist", to whom I simply state "yeah I'm moving to an area that you dont service"... they asked for the address I'm moving to "to make sure" and I said "already did that, you dont offer service, please cancel now, thanks". Done. If they pushed it any further I was saying I'm moving to South Korea.

Every time I hear some comcast "horror story" it's some sissy who answers the questions honestly. "Oh well gee gosh, the bill is just kinda too expensive these days" and opens the door for endless haggling to get them to ditch the HD/DVR and downgrade to 6mbps to retain service.

Like that 45 minute cancellation attempt where the agent kept insisting the customer state his reasons for canceling. The customer just kept going "look man it's none of your business, I dont have to tell you why" and the agent kept countering "but sir that makes no sense, of course it is our business!" Dude shut the fuck up and just say you're canceling because you're going to jail for murdering a call support agent who wouldnt cancel your verizon service. Give them something they cant argue with because there is no solution. You joined the army and are headed to Iraq for the next 8 years, you're moving in with a roommate who already has comcast, ATT U-verse just offered you 10gbps for $1/month for the next 5 years, whatever.

My funny Timer Warner story.

When we dropped off their cable modem box after having the service for about 13 or 14 months while waiting for our Fiberhood to get Google Fiber the guy that checked us in was the Manager. He did try to keep us as customers but offered no price drop or favorable terms. his excuse was that and I swear to god this is true, he said that a lot of people were coming back to Timer Warner because Google Fiber was too complicated to own and use. He said the service while a little faster was a lot harder to setup and use and that a lot of customers had trouble understanding everything.

I just stood there with a smirk and said, no, it's actually easier than Timer Warner and that I loved the fact they gave me a free Nexus and Chromebook. I then said, you guys rent your tablets right?

What's really scary is that yesterday I read that most ISP's are moving to data caps so they can sell you add-on data blocks to make more money. I also read there was this new thing where 14 or 15 state Governors are lashing out at Verizon and others for not rolling out higher speeds across the US fast enough. Something like that.

So soon, if not already, it's not going to make a difference to them if you do try and stop some of your services. It's not going to matter where you go in town because all of the ISP's will have data caps. They could give F'k Less if you drop cable.

For me the writing is on the wall and has been for years. That's why my GF and I moved to Kansas City for Google Fiber. It's going on 3 years now that we've had it and it's an incredible feeling.

Also, Republican's, many of them want to repeal Net Neutrality since it effectively stops ISP's from making lots and lots of money at the expensive of it's customers since cord cutting is only ramping up. 550,000 - 600,000 people in the US have dropped cable so far in 2015 was the number given.

Some are even calling Net Neutrality Obama Care for the Internet.

I see these stories, yet when I called Comcast to complain that they had just doubled my bill, and told them I would leave if they didn't do something about, and was even willing to accept a lessor package for a smaller price, they did nothing. So I cancelled. And they didn't even seem to care.

It's kind of sad that cancelling Comcast's service is known to be such hell that this is a business model. I haven't had to deal with Comcast for a few years but when I dropped their cable modem service a few years back and switched to Centurylink I got almost no push back from them and it was a rather pleasant experience that took me all of ten minutes. And I didn't even have to drop off or mail the cable modem anywhere because I had bought it.

The fact that this is something on the table to begin with sure makes Comcast look bad.

I didn't have comcast, but I managed to cancel my cable with minimal issues by refusing to answer why I wanted to cancel.

Rep: "Can I ask why you want to cancel?"
Me: "No"

You might have to say it a few times. But if you don't tell them they can't even continue the script.

If they insist tell them you're moving to Africa.

I'm not sure why everyone is having so many issues with Comcast. It's not as if most of the alternatives are any better. Other large corporations (Time Warner Cable, AT&T Uverse, etc) are mostly worse if anything, and i've seen so many mom & pop ISPs out there where the only difference between their $50/month service and their $150/month service is whether you are capped at 500GB/month or 1000GB/month that it makes me want to vomit.

Sir maybe you have amnesia or something. Consider the possibility you might be having early dementia. You REALLY dont want to regret leaving us!

Their 'local' cable office is 18 miles away. They closed the one that used to be in my county. Cutbacks, you know, to save money to give to the idiots who answer phones.

This! It took me all of 10 mins. at the cable office.

I suspect this is difficult for some people because it would involve going outside...

You guys have it this hard in the US to cancel a TV / internet contract?

Most are not even under contract, that's what makes the process so unbelievably ridiculous. If you did indeed have a contractual obligation, I could see the reason for the hassle..
