These are the best 3 option i found on newegg. For the life of me I can't find faster/lower true latency RAM.

See below for list and examples of DDR3 latencies
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAS_latency

FYI these are better prices then the 8GB so might as well get 16 GB stick :)

Cheapest ECC/buffered (normal voltage)
$114

Slightly more but ECC/buffered and low voltage
$122

Even a little bit more ECC/buffered and faster (normal voltage)
$126

or is there a better option? I don't need fancy for this. Its just a regular little xeon server but good RAM is always nice.

Just buy some used/new off of Ebay.

Here are the 16GB 1.35v sticks new for 100.95 each shipped.

And buffered is not the same as ECC.

You have ECC, Registered, and Fully Buffered for the different types.

What is the exact type that you need/want?

If Registered of Fully Buffered, you can usually have a larger amount than if just regular ECC. Fully Buffered has a different keying in the slot than ECC or Registered last time I checked.

I said they were ECC and Registered (buffered and registered are the same last i heard/read). I know they are different. I rather buy new at this point and not deal with potentially unknown vendors for RAM like ebay. When I buy for my NAS I might consider Ebay because I'll need 64GB+

This is for my game server/file server/encoding computer. There isn't anything parse mission critical like what I would consider my NAS would be. This is what I bought:

I will be using the MB and set up in my Norco 4224 case temporarily to test my hardrives and figure out SnapRAID until I can decide on what MB CPU I want for my NAS.

Your right fully buffered exists but thats not normal memory and quite rare

FYI nice find on the 100 bucks but I don't really want to chance Ebay on this considering I am debating on getting my HBA and expander off ebay.

Gotcha on the registered/buffered being the same thing. Just not used to it being called buffered.

As for RAM from Ebay, I have purchased at least 128GB of different kinds of server RAM and have never had a single stick be faulty. All of that was DDR2. Some Fully Buffered, some Registered, and some Parity.

I just make sure the seller(s) have good feedback before I will purchase stuff like that from them.

That Ebay link is for new RAM and it should have a lifetime warranty from Kingston. Just trying to help you save a bit of coin is all.

nah i appreciate it and i have been giving it further thought and if i am buying all this other stuff off Ebay I might as well chance it...watch it blow up in y face -_-

I'll just blame you k? :D

Someone was saying in another thread that registered won't work in the sever I have so I got to figure that out. There is non registered but It was in a different search on newegg hence why I missed it. I hope I can get registered because I want 16GB dims.

BTW I am also just paranoid about ebay and resale stuff so that's part of it too. I lack all sense of trust in humanity from life experiences. :/
