Seems like we can unlock some of the Fury non-X cores

FYI this does indeed work, my card is not good for flashing because the disabled units are too spread out, so I get uneven shader counts unlocked which breaks the symmetry and doesn't really add more performance. My card has at least 2 bad CU's and I get artifacts heavily if I unlock them all.

Here is mine with 59 of 64 unlocked (which means 3 out of 4 stream engines only have 1 disabled CU, performance is up overall 3-5% over locked card):

what are your temps like with the additional CUs active?
 
perhaps i should have qualified that, are the fans running faster to maintain your temps?

theoretically, more CUs should generate more heat...

Not really no, the Tri-X cooler is massively overkill for this card so I doubt you would notice even if all of them unlocked.
