Target's new store, dubbed Open House, is a 3500-square-foot space in San Francisco that will showcase and push the concept of a fully connected home. Do you think there is enough interest in smart-home products for this retail concept to take off?

This scene and others come to life inside a new tech wonderland created by Target, designed to show off the 35 Internet-connected home devices studded throughout. There’s an August smart door lock, a Ring smart doorbell, a Nest thermostat and a Sonos music player.

All good until the electricity goes down and you can't get in to your house.

Or some douche cuts the cable.

Or you lose your phone.

I could go on.

I have some smart home gadgets. This is still in the hobbyist phase - I don't think it has a lot of main stream appeal yet.
I'm using the Wink hub - requires internet to use as it is cloud based. I am using it to control some lights, smart locks, and a humidity sensor in a bathroom (to control a vent fan).
I have not bought a smart thermostat yet - kind of waiting to see if Nest or another vendor ups the ante.
