Nooooooooooo!!!

Last week we started to receive reports that Netflix was running post-roll ads after shows ended. At that time everyone who was affected was using an Xbox One to watch Netflix. Now we are receiving reports that Netflix is testing ads before shows start, and we are hearing from Netflix subscribers on other devices, including Roku and Tivo.

First time I see an ad on my desktop watching Netflix (don't do consols etc etc), I will stop what I am watching and cancel on the spot.

Yeah id probably cancel too. If they're going to hit me with ads, they're going to need A LOT better selection of AAA content, not shitty B-movies and tv series that's weren't that great the first time around.

When watching seasons and an episode stops and it has a countdown to the next episode - put it there. I don't mind it there.

Before the show or movie starts? That's why I went to Netflix vs. competitors. Too much shit before the movie starts. Piracy was one way around it, but I stayed legit. Pirates don't have ads....

Not surprising, Netflix does not have a flexible enough business model. They seem dead set on only charging a monthly rate. This is starting to get stupid. They need to take their current high market share and transfer it into other business models.

New releases. Exactly like pay per view, youtube etc.... You might pay $50 for a big UFC fight or $20 for a movie at the same time it releases in movie theaters.

Recent releases. Maybe something like $3-$10 per movie.

All other content, $1 per movie just like redbox etc.....

Instead they are trying to hard to get more money in ways that are just going to piss people off, IE throwing ads in.

I'm good with the monthly fee for the current catalog. But, if they did that PPV model where you can get theatrical releases for $20.00 for 24 hours or so? I'd pay that a few times a month. No way would the movie industry go for that (gives pirates HD quality releases, theaters couldn't compete, etc..). But, the consumers would definitely benefit, and they'd get my money. Instead, I wait for BR releases. If it's a must-see, I wait for discount night (Tuesday's for $5.00 a ticket, half off).

It really depends. If they are up front and say this extra revenue will allow them to give viewers better content, then I could justify it and continue my sub. But if after a short time the content stays just as stale, I would have to cut my sub. I tend to believe it's not just dollars keeping content limited but rather big business politics.

Don't be on AppleTV, Don't be on AppleTV, Don't be on AppleTV.

Can I pay extra to not have this feature?

Daredevil, House of Cards, Kimmy Schmidt were pretty good original content. Those really got my attention. They continue to get some good movies in for their standard lineup, too. I'm getting my moneys worth as it is. Throw in some more, and ads would be fine. Minimal, non-intrusive ads. Still, it can snowball into a huge mess.

I think they're trying to make money off of their exclusive tv shows, which makes sense, i can't imagine its a huge draw for people who already don't have Netflix regardless of how good the show is.

Fucking a. The only escape from constant commercials is Netflix. Buy a blue ray, watch fucking commercials. Pay for cable, watch commercials. 30 second youtube clip, 2 minute commercial.

I don't even buy things based on commercials.

This is why I prefer Netflix to Hulu, I mean I understand the need to make money and grow as a business but with as many subscribers as they are getting especially for their exclusive content, you would think the ad-free model would remain as that's valuable to potential and current customers.

It's sad that it takes this kinda thing for people to realize that getting away from commercials means just not watching videos. There's pretty much no other way to avoid it except for leaving the "sit and watch" model of entertainment in the past where it belongs.

As long as they are at the beginning and not during, I don't really care. Just start the movie and go microwave some popcorn. Come back when the movie starts. Now if they ever start interrupting the movie with ads or popups then I'll cancel my sub.

God ain't this the truth! A big part of why I cut the cord was the commercials literally made TV unwatchable. You had 5 minutes of commercials every few minutes. If Netflix starts running commercial I'll cancel almost immediately and just stick with Prime's video service. Not quite the catalog as Netflix but I am so fucking sick of commercials and ads.

Netflix isn't testing ads. They are testing showing a trailer for one of their shows at the start of you watching a show. This is a very click-baity headline.

I would say that is an ad just because its first party does not exclude it from being one nor does the fact its a trailer. Not sure how else one would define it.

Ads, show previews, whatever... bad idea Netflix, I'm out if I see this.

This. I can deal with a commercial at the beginning or end but they place a single commercial during the middle and Netflix can kiss my sub goodbye.

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a "3rd party ad". I really don't mind until they start including those.

I'll be pissing off quite a few people in my family but too bad, I'm not paying a subscription to watch commercials. There's no reason for it.

I dumped netfix ages ago. Movietube.pw is much better. More range of movies and it fucking free.

I'd probably find mandatory pre-roll ads a bit annoying. But not unduly so.

As long as it's not 3more than 2-3 minutes. And as long as there are NO mid-program ads.

Mid-program shit (a'la Hulu) would cause me to drop my sub faster than you could say "eat a dick".

Trailers may be just a start. Next would be maxipad commercials before chickflicks and viagra ads before action films.

Yea you know why I pay for it? BECAUSE NO ADS. Why the heck would I PAY and still get ads? I'm sick of every app/service nowadays deciding that the only way to monetize is to place ads. We need LESS ads, not more.

Isn't this exactly why people are cutting the cord from cable tv? Too many fucking commercials. Now Netflix, holy shit WTF?

Looks like I'm subscribing Amazon Prime now.

Netflix just said this on their twitter

"Netflix spokesman: We have zero intention of putting ads on our platform; no change at all in policy."

Guess that puts this to rest.

So then, what exactly are they testing, and why? Seems scetchy.

I'm ok with this. Sirius does it all the time. They let you know about what their other channels are doing. I just don't want to hear about the latest flavor of crystal light for the 800th time.

There are NO ads. However, they have been a previews of coming shows which are NOT ads.

Finally, someone besides me gets it! :D
