We posted a while back about the Grand Theft Auto movie starring Bill Paxton and Daniel Radcliffe. The original news item has drawn the attention of Rockstar Games and the gaming company wasn’t too thrilled about the movie. Rockstar has made the decision to sue the BBC for trademark infringement.

A Rockstar spokesperson said: “Our goal is to ensure that our trademarks are not misused in the BBC’s pursuit of an unofficial depiction of purported events related to Rockstar Games.

What does the law favor in cases like these? This is supposed to be a documentary. Do documentaries carry the same protections as the nightly news?
Is Rockstar just looking for a payout, and the BBC never offered enough, or do they really not want this to air?

Its unbelievable that they didnt get at least consent if not a license to make the movie.
BBC do some retarded things.

Its easy to understand why Rockstar would want to protect their property and story base.

No, no, this isn't a movie with a storyline set within the GTA storyline. This is a documentary about Jack Thompson's battle against Rockstar Studios. You don't need permission, consent or licenses to make documentaries.

Holy shit, Jack Thompson. I'd forgotten about him. Looks like he's all but dropped off the face of the earth since he got disbarred in 2008.

They are employing high end actors to play the part of Rockstar employees.
Its a movie.
