After almost a 10 year wait, it looks like Doom 4 is ready to be rolled out to the gaming public on June 14th. In that 10 year period, Id Software has shelved many versions of its next incarnation of Doom and we can now show you screenshots of one of the cancelled versions you will never get to play.
 
There's not much to see except a lot of ruined buildings and some people. No demons, only one visible and clearly non-Doomy gun. I get the "Hell on Earth" vibe they're going for, and the wreckage looks impressive, but this looks like it could be any post-apocalyptic game, not a "Doom" game. For it to get the "Doom" label it needs to stand out.
 
Looks like a Battlefield clone gone horribly wrong. Good thing they left if for dead. But it's clear they wanted to recreate Doom 2 in Doom 4.
