Netflix is a pretty pragmatic company when it comes to its pricing; the company likes to stay competitive with piracy. The higher the instances of piracy of movies and shows from torrent sites, the lower the cost of Netflix in that country.

If local content consumers are already perfectly comfortable with downloading shows and movies from torrent sites and digital lockers for free, Netflix has to keep prices low in order to attract customers.

So, basically, if we start pirating more shows and movies they will lower prices here? Seems like a good idea.....

The price is also dependant on the licensing fees that Netflix has to pay. The licensing guys are willing to cut Netflix a break if they think they're not going to make any money in that region anyway.

Goes to show you kids, if you follow the rules, and don't do anything wrong, in the end you'll get screwed over. The nice compassionate kid isn't going to get the girl, the girl wants the bad boy, you want to buy all your software, companies will make sure to keep charging you just enough so that they can make the most profit, and think downloading a movie is wrong? Well you'll just pay more to watch that movie!

You forgot to add:
Your a loyal cable/magazine/newspaper/etc. customer, they raise the cost every year.
If you are a new customer they give you a steep discount.

Makes it cheaper to just switch every year or two instead of being a loyal customer.

High piracy countries typically have shit living standards anyway. If they charged them the same price, now that would be dumb.

Is the US one of the lower-priced countries? If not, then why does the MPAA tell us piracy is rampant all the time?

I don't think it necessarily relates directly to piracy figure. The pricing could be set according to the financial situation in these countries.

Just like how on Steam, games are cheaper in certain Asian region, and even more so in Russia. Piracy is higher in these regions too, but they are not the reason why games are cheaper. Games are made cheaper here to ensure they are affordable to the local population.

There are other factors too. For example here in Sweden Netflix costs more even if we have a lot of piracy (Piratebay is Swedish). But 79SEK (a bit over 9USD but when Netflix came to Sweden in 2012 it was 12USD. They are most likely going to increase the price because of the exhange rate) is still a very good price. I went and saw Furious 7 recently and the movie tickets are now 130SEK (15USD in todays exhange rate).

Well considering the entire reason the "original" Netflix became popular was because of piracy, I can understand the parity.
