If you need a low profile heatsink, this review of the Phanteks PH-TC12LS at FrostyTech should be right up your alley.

In this review Frostytech is testing the Phanteks PH-TC12LS heatsink, a top-down low profile heatsink that stands 74mm tall and weighs in at 500grams. Like the Phanteks PH-TC14S heatsink Frostytech tested here , the Phanteks PH-TC12LS relies heavily on aesthetics. The aluminum fins have been painted black, which is not an ideal surface treatment because it insulates the aluminum fins from the surrounding air mass to some degree.

Read the review, this is NOT a low profile heatsink you want in your system as it is lousy on all counts.

It is impossible to read their overall ratings. They should have presented them alphabetically, that was the only hope. Junk!!!

Has anyone ever considered soaking these in a solvent bath to remove the paint, then removing the fins, cleaning, and soldering them back on? Seems like an interesting experiment, to see what these things are actually capable of when not hindered by stupidity.
