It's too bad that voters can't "amend" this guy's term to sixty days the way he amended this bill on license plate data retention. :D

But on Friday, McAuliffe changed the seven-day limit to 60 days, and changed “any surveillance technology” to “license plate readers.” Brian Moran, the Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security, said Friday that he had “been informed by numerous law enforcement agencies that license plate readers result in salient and compelling information.

So they changed it from 7 days to 60 days because the police has been keeping the data for 180 days?

I find it interesting that the Governor is allowed to amend a bill sent to him by the legislature.

In any event, it just goes back to the legislature for a vote on the amendments.

Given the vote tally of the original bill, I'd bet that the legislature will not approve the amendments and will send the bill back to the Governor in it's original form.

I'd also bet that if he vetoes it, and there is a veto over ride in the Virginia state constitution that the legislature will over ride the veto.

Use a placeholder plate (like when you buy a new car or make your own) and keep your real plate in your glove box. Two things:

1) Digital scanners won't be able to track you.
2) If police pull you over for any reason, then yeah - you just haven't had time to put your new plates on but no problem officer, they're right here, no problem putting them on now.

They want to play games, we'll play games.

3) They write you a citation for not having plates on your car regardless of your forgetfulness.

Hell it is better than California much less LA. Their excuse is it is an on going investigation so they can continue to hold the data indefinitely

This is the dumbest shit I've read all day.

Plate scanners have become an invaluable tool for cops who are panning for gold on the interstate highways.

Civil asset forfeiture is the best racket law enforcement has ever had, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kEpZWGgJks

After all, it's America, land of the almighty dollar, and people are money. Gotta keep those prisons full, because mass incarceration is about all we lead the world in anymore. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Pz3syET3DY

Prison population[edit]

On January 1, 2008 more than 1 in 100 adults in the United States were in prison or jail.[23][24]

In 2008 approximately one in every 31 adults (7.3 million) in the United States was behind bars, or being monitored (probation and parole).

In 2008 the breakdown for adults under correctional control was as follows: one out of 18 men, one in 89 women, one in 11 African-Americans (9.2 percent), one in 27 Latinos (3.7 percent), and one in 45 Caucasians (2.2 percent).

Crime rates have decreased by about 25 percent from 1988 to 2008.[26]

In recent decades the U.S. has experienced a surge in its prison population, quadrupling since 1980, partially as a result of mandatory sentencing that came about during the "War on Drugs." Violent crime and property crime have declined since the early 1990s.[27]

Just a bunch of worthless pricks who contribute virtually nothing to society in my eyes.

This guy is a typical Democrat. I sure as hell didn't vote for him.

It's like 10000000000% the fault of the average working class person that there's crime to begin with and a need for programs like this to get them to repay their debt to society because they would totally not claim any responsibility for their dumbness, instead blaming police, governments, or anyone else around them for their nefarious activities.

You do realize the police don't write the laws. Sounds like your problem is really with the politicians who wrote the laws.
