A brand new Medical Center at Mission Bay will open February 1st with the help of 25 autonomous robots. The pre-programmed robots will essentially take over mundane duties like moving supplies and stock and assisting with kitchen and pharmacy duties.

"You can't afford to wait for someone to show up. The robot that never gets distracted, never stops for coffee, could be great for these critical deliveries."

I hate it when I click on these stories and expect Johnny 5 but get a wastebasket instead.

The robots in the new Medical Center look amazingly like the medical robots in The Flight of the Navigator way back in 1986. I guess not much has changed in 30 years.

They had these things running around Fair Oaks Hospital in 1992-1994 when I had my 3 back operations. Nothing new here.

They were pretty smart bastards too.

Being that I work in medical imaging research (for the last 17.5+ years) and spend a lot of time in hospitals, I say this is definitely nothing new. Robots like this have been around for a long time.
