Did these morons just say our president was behind a fictional assassination attempt against Kim Jong-un? Ummm, what?!?

North Korea is threatening to retaliate against the US over a Hollywood film portraying the assassination of Kim Jong-un, saying it has “clear evidence” that Washington was heavily involved in devising the plot. Accusations the US government was involved in the film’s plot were issued by the North Korea’s powerful Policy National Defence Commission in a 1,600-word statement run on North Korea’s state news agency, KCNA.

Yup.

and President Obama is the reason your country has no electricity, too.

what a bunch of clowns.

I've seen this episode before. The only way to destroy the monster is by laughing at it.

Wish we could bring "good presidents from the past to the future" , JFK would be my pick.. What you think? I remember when they had the balls to actually talk crap to each other and have balls , now the got a sex change and they be all up in each other pu$$ys! So annoying. Honestly if a president ran that wasn't afraid to admit Frak ups i would vote for him!

i imagine how obama puts on his nanosuit, jumps out of an aircraft at mach 2 with his wingsuit and personally takes care of kim jong-un. totally reminds me of metal wolf chaos (link with gameplay and all cutscenes, they are ridiculous) :)

Problem Solved.

Wait, didn't North Korea say they didn't care the movie came out? Now they threaten US over it? Tf?

I do not see any benefit to blaming America over the Sony Pictures event.

Can anyone, flesh out, even the slightest benefit America would have in this scenario?

i have to say.. i think sony really screwed this one up. making a film depicting assassinating a current sitting head of state, was not very smart. even if it is that fat POS in north korea.

can you imagine the outcry if another country made a movie killing obama?

and then they caved into their threats and pulled the movie from the theaters..

I'm pretty sure the US will not retaliate by threatening to terrorize theaters and movie goers... And how many movies and TV shows has been filmed depicting a plot to assassinate the US president? Plenty.

i have to say.. (snip)

That pretty much sums it up. An ill-informed and asinine film to make to start with, and then to cave in to a bunch of e-thugs is pitiful.

If you believe in what you did you stand by it. But let's be honest, this was never art. It was a cheap, topical gag about murdering someone that nobody likes.

We continue to blame video games and pornography for the state of the world.

But not a current "in office" President. Or none that I am aware of.

From a work of fiction though, there aren't a lot of choices.

You can make up a country and president. But then you have to explain whey this country is so important in the film. There is also the awkwardness of it not being a real country.

You can have a real country, but make an ambiguous president. This can work and is fairly common, but it again creates awkwardness for the viewer if you are trying to do current events. Future events are fine because we do not know who the president will be.

You can choose a real country, but one that is of no significant. Like assassinating the president of Moldova. You have to explain the importance of the country in the movie, but you can also be ambiguous in the character because to be honest who know's president of Moldova?

The final option is to just use a real country and a real person. The viewer already understands the back story it's believable. Plus it's FICTION.

there was a BBC movie about killing the sitting president (then Bush II, IIRC). The movie was billed as a thoughtful documentary-style imagining of the consequences, but it still managed to generate a lot of controversy. If a reasonable movie like that caused problems, an "interview" style one would make us crazy, calling for boycotts, insulting the nation (freedom fries anyone?) etc..

Funny..back in the day JFK wasn't thought of as having balls.

Hell he barely got elected because he was...*gasp*...Catholic. He only got elected because LBJ gave him credentials in the South. The JFK/LBJ ticket only beat Nixon by 0.2% of the popular vote, one of the closest popular elections ever. Something that could arguably have been because JFK knew how to look/play on TV.

Sony Pictures is a subsidiary of Sony, which is a Japanese company. Yet North Korea has not threatened Japan...

Oh. Haven't they threatened us before with their stupid BS videos and propaganda over their state run TV? Same shit, different day, different material. Who gives a flying fuck. They are talking out their ass, as usual. Don't ignore it, but don't make it such a big deal.

I am beginning to think Bath Salts originated from the Norks, after many years of proven therapeutic use there.

You know, I could take care of all of this BS with a 2 way flight to South Korea and a $50 pair of loppers.

That would be too one-sided. We need an Obama vs. Putin cage-match.

I can't believe the South Koreans pull it off having such an insane neighbor.

I can't believe the South Koreans pull it off having such an insane neighbor.

They pull it off because of two things:

1) DPRK is the SK equivalent of that batshit crazy brother you have...who despite everything else is still your brother

2) Because the USA and the UN provides the military power to enforce the DMZ and hold the land. If the USA pulled out, SK would be taken over practically overnight.

Every time I see a NK press release I get the impression that if a teenage internet troll ran a country, it would be just like North Korea.

If they really wanted to poke fun at North Korea, when the movie is released have the government purchase free tickets for everyone who wants to go see it :)

funny they think the U.S. Gov has anything to do with Sony Picture films.

Yeah, Sony's biggest mistake is thinking they could make a movie about NK that's actually funnier than their government behaves IRL. That's aside from the human rights issues, obviously.

Ahhh, the classic "we didn't do the hack, but if you say we did, we'll totally hack the shit out of you" defense. Brilliant.

According the leaked Sony emails, they labeled the movie as not very funny and they are very worried that the movie would have flopped in theaters. Now I guess the problem has been taken care of.

anyone else disappointed that dennis rodman had his cahnce and blew it? I have been thinking this before the movie was known to me. what a waste of space. as the clash once said "if adolf hitler, flew in today... they'd send in a limousine anyway"

Death of a President- 2006

Years after the assassination of President George W. Bush in Chicago, an investigative documentary examines that as-yet-unsolved crime.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0853096/

George Walker Bush (born July 6, 1946) is an American politician and businessman who served as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009

Not an exact match but it's also not a comedy either.

Well, I would say the main reason is a shit-load (technical term) of NK conventional artillery massed to go off on a moments notice on Seoul, population 10 million. I think taking NK by military force would be the definition of pyrrhic.

But a country with barely any internet has somehow managed to hack Sony because it's offensive!

I swear, people will believe ANYTHING if it's ridiculous enough.

Right, Sony did this intentionally to save 1 stupid movie. That totally makes more sense.

And I think a silver lining may happen here; what if there is overwhelming demand and profit made by releasing this film directly "into the wild" via Bittorrent/direct download for a reasonable price? Could be an interesting business study that moves studios to rethink things...?

By all accounts that description is roughly correct. The current Grand Pubah of NK does not begin to carry the same fear (which equals respect in a dictatorship, especially a that country) as his father. IMO it's only a matter of time before the NK people stop putting up with it.

The irony imo is that our own federal government currently stands closer to NK's system (songun, one set of civil laws for their military, and another for everyone else) than at any time in our history. It's why a country with a population under 25 million contains 9.5 million soldiers, and it's the mechanics of how this regime maintains its power. The same could (imo already is) happening here.

Funny, I don't remember accusing Sony of doing all of this to themselves. Simply pointing to an obvious with hunt.

JFK:

Life member of the NRA
Cut taxes to stimulate business
Ran on a platform of increasing military spending to "cut the missile gap" with the USSR
(not a particularly good naval officer but) a real war hero
Definitely "anti-communist"

nothing like today's liberal democrats....
