Canadian Pirates to Get Notices from ISPs in January

Our chilly brethren of the Great White are about to have a change in the way illegal downloaders are notified by their ISP’s in January. Once an illegal download is discovered, the ISP is duty-bound to send out a notice to the customer that their IP address has been identified. The new law will hopefully serve as a deterrent to illegal downloadingonce an official notification has been made and the IP address logged.

In January the system will change and become mandatory as the Copyright Modernization Act will take effect.

This is exactly the same thing as putting cameras on our roadways tracking all driving and activity, and telling us "YOU BETTER BE GOOD, OR ELSE"

I thought the whole reason that they could justify paying premiums for media storage (blank dvds, etc.) was because they were paying the big media for their downloading. I mean that was how it was sold when this first became a law. So how can these fuckers charge extra for this collect all the money and then say, "Oh by the way we are gonna come after you now?" That is total and complete garbage.

While I never been a big fan of illegal downloads and I can understand the frustration of the owners of the copyrights, I think that the Canadian government should focus further on environmental issues.

Also, goods and particularly cell phones and internet access are very expensive in Canada compared to the States. An investigation on the matter is over due...

I guess it's finally time to pay for one.

Checkout Private Internet Access. This is what I use, super fast, 2-3MBps on a 40Mbps connection. They don't keep logs at all, and they have an excellent reputation for completely ignoring any and all DMCA notices and/or subpoenas.

I use this VPN whenever I am using public hot spots or other peoples wifi connections or when Im at clients offices and I don't want their network security crap interfering with my connection. For the record I'm not advocating piracy, I'm advocating PRIVACY. What you do with this power is your problem! lol

yes just keep blabbing about it and pretty soon they will come after the vpns too.

Im Canadian and have been given these notices for over two years. The annoying part is they list files I do not download. I thought maybe I had been hacked so I redid my server, but i continued to receive the notices. They I noticed that some of the infractions were stated to happen when my server was offline. I complained to my ISP about the volume, and authenticity of the notices, and was told that they are "Just passing on the report", and that they are obligated to do so. So essentially I am being SPAM'ed to death, and falsely at that. I do use eMule, and this is what is being targeted, but so far I have never downloaded a file that has been named in the notice.
Very frustrating!!

ive always wanted to make a website where you would hit a button, and it committed an internet crime.

and then you discover which crime you just committed and where it was a crime.

maybe you just posted a death threat, maybe you seeded a popular torrent, maybe you just uploaded a picture of bunnies that had an identical hash of some obscure kiddie porn, maybe you just uploaded some bits of nmdc that imitated a song, maybe you just drew a picture of allah, maybe you just participated in DDoS attack, etc etc.

Lol, you think the government would repeal a tax that's already served it's purpose and is out of date? They have friends to pay off and $6 glasses of orange juice to expense!

What would be the issue with that? You are technically supposed to stick to the speed limit...

Im not worried. I used to be with rogers and I got these all the time, few each day. I just ignored them.
Im with teksavvy and I dont get any, if I do, Ill just VPN up, but even now, its just a shake of the finger, they cant do anything other than try to deter us.

Instead of VPNs why don't you just stop the copyright infringements and go legit? How hard can that be?

I stoped using illegal torrents years ago when my home connection was registered as a work benefit for the company. I haven't missed the ability to download illegal stuff at all. Not to mention the malware risk in addition to the legal hazards you take when using torrents.

I haven't had any malware or virus's in over a decade. I dunno why everyone always cites malware when they talk about torrents. I guess some people don't read the comments sections on torrents or go to super nefarious sites? I dunno

Private trackers tend to be much better about policing these kinds of things. I think a lot of the negative views come from people that frequented TPB or other public trackers. Sometimes the torrents on those trackers were even seeded by media companies with malware embedded so that they could either find out who was downloading their content or discourage people by giving them a bad experience.

TPB self-policed very well with their "trusted" green icons for seeders. If peeps were using untrusted sources, its at your own risk of course.

People don't know how to use malware bytes to check files. I always found it odd how they figure out torrenting and proxies/vpns but can't even use an anti virus/malware program.
