The list of cities, states and countries that have banned Uber is growing.

The injunction is a result of a complaint from the Madrid Taxi Association, and it forces Uber to cease operations in the country immediately; a statement from the Madrid court announcing the injunction points out that Uber didn't even get to defend itself, and cites Uber's business license being from Delaware (a tax haven where many companies file, despite not being based there) as the reason.

I wouldn't have an issue with Uber getting shut out if it was due to all sorts of bad service, dangerous, insurance problems, hiring felons,, etc... however I'm having a hard time seeing any articles without something along the lines of

Taxi monopoly on a region, decides they don't want competition, so they band together to get rid of competition.

Socialism and its infatuation with dying markets.

They're so pro-anything when it comes to social matters, but when someone wants to get ahead on economic issues they suddenly embrace anything to avoid change. That's how they control society and economy.

Not even socialism really, just corruption in politics where taxi companies setup really big unions and work with other trucking unions and the like to stomp out competition.

And then people wonder why the service sucks so bad.

While there is corruption in politics, lobby money, good ol' boys networks... The way I see it the main issue with Uber/Lyft etc is not really that type of issue (yet).

Though the Spain situation seems to be exactly that since Uber could not defend themselves and the article didn't really mention a reason beyond being located someone due to tax reasons.

Yet the bottom line is uber is a taxi service that doesn't seem to think they are a taxi service and thus do not follow local laws and regulations. This imo is a major reason for Nevada and Porland bans/suits.

You can debate all you want about what is over regulation etc but at the end of the day ALL taxi services should adhere to the law on the books.
