I'd like to use the two thunderbolt ports on my LG 34UM95 21:9 monitor for "something useful", simply because I have them.

The problem is I have no idea what to use them for. Every google of the subject sends me to a mac article or a theoretical article that says nothing.

Can these ports be used for "anything practical" for a user with a fairly modern PC or are they completely useless?

You can daisy chain multiple thunderbolt devices together. If you've got 'em, string 'em up!

To my knowledge only asus and gigabyte have motherboards that support thunderbolt add in cards. Things to use with the thunderbolt interface are mostly external hard drives or audio interface (much lower latency of thunderbolt is great for DACs). Beware though that some products that use a fireware --> thunderbolt converter.

So in conclusion : "completely useless".

(And can't even use them as mini-display ports either, making them a complete waste of space)
