Right on the heels of the release of the stable version of Chrome 39, Google has already pushed out Chrome Beta 40. Few details are available now, but the rollout will be staggered to beta testers over the next few weeks.

As for the SSL protocol, Google already disabled the fallback to version 3.0 in Chrome 39. In Chrome 40, the company is removing SSL 3.0 completely.

So, what happens when you hit a SSLv3 site?
Google doesn't want you there. They know better. Doesn't matter if its Kitten Inspiration posters, they know better.

I thought everyone was moving towards TLS anyway. SSL isn't considered secure anymore, so why use it? If you need to hit a site with SSL tell them to upgrade their stuff.

This is great and all.... except for the millions of hardware devices out there that can't be upgraded and still use SSL 3.0... SSL 3.0 is still much better than the frequent alternative of disabling https and using http for everything.

With all due respect, since we are talking about SSLv3, wouldn't poodles be more appropriate than kittens?

chrome removing SSL3 does not stop the millions of hardware devices out there from working (that can just have a simple update to include TLS updated in firmware, unless you're talking about phones (install chrome/firefox/opera or Opera mini)

i thought chrome will still supported SSL3 it just simply not report the site as secure any more and thow a very big warning that you have to press two buttons to get past it (as if chrome did not have SSL3 support the site will completely fail to load)

Chrome has always disabled and then removed depreciated protocols. If you haven't had a problem since October, then you'll be fine when 40 hits.

You know what those millions of hardware devices consist of as a percentage? 0.09% Even most XP machines connect via TLS. Chances are those systems are devices people have long forgotten about or will never be upgraded unless forced.
