A recent study of 20 participants (10 male, 10 female) found that playing first- and third-person shooters became better learners "by playing the fast-paced action games." Intriguing.

As Bavelier explained, the brain is constantly building new templates of the world, in order to sharpen its prediction skills—whether listening to a conversation, driving, or even performing surgery. "The better the template, the better the performance," she said. "And now we know playing action video game actually fosters better templates."

I call bullshit. I'll believe that they improve hand-eye coordination, though.

Definitely hand eye coordination.

I'm sure it can help people adapt to things faster too.

Depends whether you make use of the other skills already.
The less you currently use them in your day to day, the more benefit you will get.
Theres more to gaming than coordination...
Which is so obvious I have to wonder what you are missing to call this out so strongly.

Surprise, surprise. Playing FPS helps improve visual processing. Call me back when it's shown to improve g.
