Unlimited Online Photo Storage Free With Amazon Prime

Google already has this. I think it's like 15gb free and then after that they auto resize your pics to be 2048px on the longest edge. If you have an android phone, Google+ will auto backup all your pics to your picasa account. Honestly a very cool feature in case your phone is stolen/dies or your SD craps out.

Or your phone randomly wipes all photos. Happens to my wife every few months. Just wipes everything. So, I set her up with the backup for Picasa. She's happy now when it happens and she has a backup.

Windows Phone automatically syncs pictures to OneDrive all the time. I love that feature. Take a picture, and in a few seconds, it's on OneDrive ready to go. Great for backup, cool for having everything available to show others regardless of if you're on your phone or desktop.

A couple years ago, I'd be against this whole thing. I'm sure if my stuff was leaked, I'd be pissed, too. But, for the general person, it's excellent. I really love the "cloud" stuff now.

Many were suspecting after Microsoft started to offer unlimited OneDrive storage to Office 365 subscribers that you'd see other cloud players respond in kind. I know there's a lot of paranoia about cloud storage and indeed the idea that you can now store unlimited amounts of data for $70 bucks a year could be scary.

I went through all this earlier and I cannot find anything about any storage size limits on pictures. Just this, "Unsupported photo file types are not covered under the Prime unlimited storage benefit and will count against your Cloud Drive storage limit."

Requirements for Uploading Photos & Videos
The photo or video is smaller than 2 GB
The video is less than 20 minutes long
You have sufficient storage space available on your Cloud Drive and on your computer
File and folder names contain fewer than 255 characters
Supported File Types
For photos:

.bmp
.gif
.jpeg
.jpg
.png
.raw
.tif
.tiff
For videos:

.mp4 (including mov, 3gp, m4v)
.avi (including divx)
.mts (mpeg transport stream)
.mpg (mpeg program stream)
.asf/.wmv
.flv
.ogg
Note:

Supported video codecs include: h.264, mjpeg, mpeg4, mpeg2, mpeg1, h.263, Sorenson. Supported audio codecs include: aac, mpeg1/2, amr, wma, qcelp, pcm.
Photos or video file types that do not meet the above requirements can be found in Cloud Drive Files, but not viewed in Cloud Drive Photos & Videos. Unsupported photo file types are not covered under the Prime unlimited storage benefit and will count against your Cloud Drive storage limit.

Does it upload to onedrive as a normal file?

Thing that ticks me off with Google+/picasa is that it uses your googledrive space but access to the files via google drive is not possible. You then are stuck with using their clumsy (imo) web interface to edit/organize pictures.

Yes, it does upload as a normal file. You can go to your desktop PC, and they are there as the normal files. Edit, manipulate, etc..

interesting... been thinking of making the switch to onedrive... Not sure about the MS phone though.

Honestly Microsoft has been kicking some ass with their offerings. The only one I still can't get behind is office365 or whatever. Subscription based software is just not for me.

Of course, I too used to say that about the 'cloud' and onedrive, etc... but after having used the auto-backup on my WP, it's a sweet-ass feature. Easy sharing, and easy restoring.

Note that they include a link to their general "Conditions of Use"[1] at the bottom of the Photo Cloud Drive page, which includes a section mainly aimed at their reviews and comments, but now would appear to also cover any photos you upload (emphasis added) as part of the "other content". I read through most of the terms and have not found any exceptions called out for the Photo Cloud Drive part. If I missed it, please let me know where you found it.

So what happens to all your pictures if you decide not to renew your Prime subscription?

is this just a ploy to keep you hooked?

Just transfer them elsewhere. Use MultCloud to do a site-to-site transfer between one cloud service and another.

No gun to head to start using it. And if you quit Prime, you just have to do some planning first.

So all you really want is prime shipping, too bad, so sad. I hate when they bundle too much crap. Now people are going to feel like they are stuck with Prime because they have all their pictures uploaded, and I bet there is no easy way to download them all after the fact, should you decide to migrate the files, and have to save them one by one.

Yeap, Amazon is like a cable company now. Oh, sorry, you can't JUST have our shipping or JUST have the videos, you gotta buy it all.

Stupid packages.

I would love to have prime but all I want is the shipping.

Just moved to Seattle and now I get Amazon Kitchen or whatever, where they bring your groceries to your house. Plus they also have a bunch of restaurants that will deliver through Prime, so you can get all grocery shopping and order takeout with one lazy click. :)

That said all I really pay for is the free 2 days shipping and drop box. Everything else is gravy that I have never really used. I think I have used Prime movies and couple of times and I think I have clicked on a couple of the other services just to check them out. But then again my foyer looks like a warehouse packing center most days, because I order for both business and personal use constantly so free two day more than pays for itself with the prime membership.

Amazon Prime subscribers are getting another cool perk, free unlimited photo storage that lets you access your photos anywhere: on your phone, computer or tablet.

Which will then be scanned, copied and used without your permission.

If you use cloud storage, you should be issued a special license that states in big red letters on it. I R FUCKING IDIOT.

So what solution would you offer to these idols that's as cost effective and convenient? I understand why people are concerned with cloud storage. But to call people idiots with no alternative with the same capabilities while removing what you think are the issues within the same price structure isn't the trademark of genius.

I'm still waiting for a cloud service that allows you to open your images untouched without downloading to the device first.

So I just tried a little test. Look for in short if TL:DR I uploaded an NEF file from my D7100. The website took it just fine. I headed over to manage my account and it told me I had 1.1MB of file use, this was from the files I've sent to my kindle. 1 phone and 28.6MB free, I think they mean free as in free storage not left as this was the size of the file.

I was stoked! So I went over to see the picture and all I saw was a 120x160 file. However this file is 28.6MB big. I downloaded it and ran it through an MD5 compare and it's the original file I uploaded.

In short: as it is right now at the web uploader will find and validate your NEF files by the TIFF preview inside of it. You'll only see the small thumbnail but your entire file is up there for free. No idea if this will change or if this violates terms and later amazon will be mad.

Awesome news, hopefully this sticks around.

I just tried from the software desktop uploader and same result.
I'll report back if I can do it from Android.

It doesn't even sync properly with the Picasa desktop program. When I tried, it forced me to read their fine print which is basically that they don't expect anyone to actually view/edit photos uploaded there, it's purely for emergency backup

I still do it because it's free, but I'll be checking this out to see if the functionality is better.

The solution has been around for decades.
If you can afford a computer, you can afford to buy a god damned backup drive. If you can afford a camera phone, you can afford a snap develop and toss phone. Just because technology is improving doesnt mean you have to be a lazy bastard who's idea of convenience is to allow someone to literally do whatever they want with your property without any compensation or say in what they do with it.

Would you like to be the poster child for HIV dating websites when you dont have HIV or any STD's? And yes, that has really happened.
Wouldnt it be awesome to find out your 9 yr old daughter is on the front page of the deep web on a kiddie porn site licking a fucking lolipop because some third party bought that photo from amazon's cloud that you took at her birthday party and released it into the wild?

If you find stuff like this completely outlandish, think again. IT HAPPENS! No one should be posting pictures of themselves or telling the world about themselves on the internet if they are not prepared for the worst possible shit you can never come up with in a million years to happen and are now linked to ... because it does... every day.

There is no "Alternative' to this. If you do not want your stuff to become public FOREVER or misused, dont do it on the internet, or anywhere else and document it in any way. I've seen some hilarious informative and downright foul shit in this world, but nothing compares to what i have seen on the internet that is supposedly secure and or involves ease of use. Nothing is secure if it is connected to the internet, and especially if you store something on anything connected to the internet. Thus by using a cloud storage service, yes, people are idiots. You are NEVER a person, you are a transaction waiting to happen when quarterly earnings come calling, and fuck the whole lot of the users if they dont like it.

Standard Luddite argument, new tech is for "lazy" people blah blah blah. I use Onedrive, because I often hop between my Surface, a workstation, and my home PC. I also use it to collaborate quite a bit...and it's a great platform to do so. Sure, can my username password be hacked? Probably. But I'm pretty security conscious (security questions don't reflect my real life, complex passwords, etc, etc) It's just convenient and I don't see why you would consider it stupid. Plus Microsoft explicitly states that you own your data, they do not scan it nor do they sell information about you found on onedrive...which makes a big part of your argument about cloud services quite moot. Microsoft's policy in regard to online storage isn't unique either.

Maybe you should get the hell off the internet and stop being a lazy fuck and mail your [H] forum posts to Kyle or Steve so they can transcribe your nonsensical rants about the stupidity of new technology onto their technology forum.

Apparently you can share your MP3's that Amazon puts in your cloud drive, not sure if it's something they overlooked.
I unshared the mp3 in the above link already.

I think I use to be able to play music directly off the Cloud Drive separate from their Music service and now I can't. So I assume they may permit sharing since you have to download to play and they ended streaming. Copyright being on you.
