Special Olympics today announced plans for engaging the $100 billion global video game industry in an effort to expand Special Olympics’ global message of inclusion and acceptance for people who have intellectual disabilities. Force Multiply Gaming (forcemultiplygaming.com), a social impact movement and brand of WarpSpeed Innovations Inc. (warpspeedconnection.com), helped identify the opportunity and is assisting Special Olympics in thinking about ways to share its message within the video game industry. Earlier this year, Special Olympics launched a new global “Play Unified” marketing campaign that is inspiring and mobilizing youth around the world to connect on the playing field with people with intellectual disabilities and create more inclusive communities. The campaign is activating millions of Special Olympics athletes, volunteers, and supporters to participate in unified activities around the world including activities in eSports. eSports is a term for organized video competitions, especially between professionals. By engaging with the video game industry, Special Olympics will have an innovative opportunity to further its message of inclusion, diversity, and empowerment by promoting unified play with athletes, eradicating stereotypes, and putting a stop to bullying.

This actually makes a lot of sense, since most gamers act intellectually disabled.

I see any effort meant with good intention having the reverse effect. All I can see is 'rage quit' special olympics.

So what do the Special Olympics and bullying have to do with each other?? Why not throw something about person's of colour and gays in there as well??

I'm glad a generation of gamers are getting an education on how a lopsided media piles on people they don't like. They might realize they aren't the only ones treated that way.

As for the other side, someone has really screwed up and allowed a learning moment. Some journalists are going to be surprised when they don't get a gold star.

You know what, I totally agree that we put aside our differences and recognize that gaming journalists are people with intellectual disabilities and we need to read their articles because what other jobs are those idiots going to do?
