Twitpic Is Shutting Down

Twitpic announced today that it is shutting down. You only have a few weeks to get your pics and vids before they are gone.

This is an unexpected and hard announcement for us to make and we want to lay out what led us to this decision. A few weeks ago Twitter contacted our legal demanding that we abandon our trademark application or risk losing access to their API. This came as a shock to us since Twitpic has been around since early 2008, and our trademark application has been in the USPTO since 2009.

Ahh... The wonderful world we live in where giant companies smash the little guy who can't defend themselves because they don't have the resources to do it.
 
Hmmm... why now? Twitter taking a beating? About to come up with a rival service? Pursuing a buyout?
 
They should have just shut down the service and made every pic URL go to an explanation of what happened.
 
Maybe they could start a social media site about crafting ... they could call it KnitTwit :)
