Self-Assembling Thousand-Robot Swarm

So took almost 12 hours to form that shape? Yet the wrench shape about half as long, wonder why... less robots? Less complex shape?

Since the wrench was a less dense shape and they're all travelling around the edges, I imagine it's much faster as subsequent bots don't have to wait as long to get their turn. Also not as many "valleys" as the other shapes to spend time travelling around.
 
Reminds me of the nanobots in The Day the Earth Stood Still.

At the rate this world is going, when AI becomes self-aware it will have more compassion and humanity in it than humans.
