Intel researchers, together with scientists at the Technical University of Munich and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, have been chosen as finalists for the prestigious 2014 Gordon Bell Prize. The annual award recognizes outstanding achievement in high performance computing (HPC) with a particular emphasis on rewarding innovation in applying HPC to applications in science, engineering and large-scale data analytics. Intel and its partners were selected for their work using supercomputers, powered by both Intel® Xeon® processors and Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessors, to create high-resolution and high-order realistic 3D seismic simulations. Insights gathered from these simulations will help societies better prepare for natural disasters such as earthquakes. This year’s winner will be announced at the SC14 awards ceremony this November in New Orleans.
