They may not be the best of corporate friends, but the two mega-corporations know when to cooperate when people are in harm’s way. Google and Twitter are working together during natural disasters as a Public Alert system to keep the population informed.

The search giant notes that these related tweets will serve to answer questions about school closings, nearby evacuations and to display what people closest to a storm are seeing.

the key there is nearby... i know with California's Amber alert system by default it sends sms to phones, and there was a huge backlash because everyone in the state got them even though one happened hundreds of miles away.
