The world's largest video game collection is on the auction block. If you want to get in on the action, you better go big because the current bid sits at over $50k and the reserve still hasn't been met.

The collection consists of all 10,607 games that were verified by The Guinness Book of World Records during the official count performed on December 3rd, 2012, as well as four hundred plus more games that I have acquired since. In total, OVER 11,000 GAMES!! Guinness did not count duplicates, so every game is unique with no repeats.

So his mom FINALLY demanded he clean out her basement eh?

This asshole makes me feel old by remembering all of those games.

Anyway, wasn't this sale done before or am I having a bad case a déjà vu?

He's basically giving the guinness world record to the buyer too.

If he was a real man he would die with his collection =)
He's actually a college professor I'm sure his wife not his mom told him to clean up the fire hazard.
I wonder how safe all of the plastic is to inhale?

I came in to make the same post. Pretty sure this collection was up for sale very recently.

I never understood why people do things like this but whatever floats your boat I guess.
Think of it as a highly organized hoarder. They collect things for the sake of collecting, but they tend to be highly functional unlike generalized hoarders.

Its a sub-category of OCD, but apparently this guy is finally over it and probably realizes that all of those games fit on a solid state drive now.

Like old games?

Just buy you a Jamma board, 512 in 1 .... table top arcade cabinet. Jamma PSU, led buttons, joystick, decals and a 4:3 monitor along with speakers and you have your own real arcade

I am not that familiar with the used games market but I highly doubt any but a rare few keep their value.

For the past few years, there has been a boom in the so-called 'retro gaming' scene. People are collecting as much as possible. Prices have skyrocketed. Some of us have been collecting games since we first started gaming (I still have my Sega Master System from 1988, among others). Others just started. It sucks as some people think their beat up old NES is worth $100 or more....

Somebody has to up this guy by selling "world's largest porn collection". Come on I know somebody on here has it.

I guess on the heals of the pile of Atari ET carts being unearth and put up for sale this guy thinks is collection is gold now.

Why do you care?

I don't care to the degree that I'll even think about it an hour from now, but I just don't like it when people try to sell big collections for lots of money. It says to me that the guy cares about the money and not that he cares about games. Of course, he's free to care about the money just as I am free to roll my eyes at him.

He doesn't have Phantasy Star III or IV for the Genesis. IV is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. I have my drive, booklet, and box around here somewhere.

The price seems low, especially for the title of "World's Largest"... I guess someone could buy this and make a good return on it later on or in smaller collections?

Haha.. I used to be like that with video games when I was younger (teen-ager and early twenties).

It started out with collecting Atari 2600 games. I had almost 100 different titles, most of which I only played once or twice.

The next big "collection" I did was with Turbo_Grafx 16. Pretty sure I had almost 100% of the games where I used to live because the supply kept getting less and less until the used place never had any. I still actually have that collection because it has such good games. I currently have about 100 different titles. Used to buy 2-3 a week until the local supply dried up.

I was buying NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis games during that time as well. I was more picky about those systems though as a lot of the games were not really worth having.. only bought the ones I thought I would play.

Was making slightly above minimum wage and spending around $100 or so per week on used video games. This was in the late 90s.

After that I started hoarding PlayStation games once FF8 came out.. mostly RPGs.. there were so many of them.

I can't explain it, but some of us enjoy the pleasure of having a collection of stuff we love. It's just like collecting stamps, trading cards, etc. They have no functional use, but somehow we enjoy just having them in our possession. I still keep all my Sega Genesis games and the broken console somewhere.

Never hurts to have a hobby :)
I have about 9-10k comic books I've been collecting over 30+ years, and I've read every single one so I got my enjoyment out of them. Stopped a few years ago but figure one of my nephew or nieces will either be VERY happy someday or it give's me a possible source of income in the future.
Of course, my new hobby is collectible statues, although those can be sold a lot easier than comics can if I wanted to but are a lot more expensive sometimes.
10k+ games? I'd be pressed to have about 250-230 old games in boxes/CD's/ect. (Not including digital) REALLY wish I had kept most, but who can tell the future?
If you have the money, why not? :p
