The formation of a system of information-sharing between concerned parties has been created by a host of big named US retailers. The goal is ultimately to protect the stores’ customers in general against cyber-attacks like the ones that occurred late 2013-early 2014.

We are confident that by sharing with our peers and industry stakeholders through the R-CISC, our industry will collectively strengthen its ability to protect critical customer information.

You know a sure fire way of keeping your customer's data from being stolen? Don't freaking keep it in the first place. Verify transaction. Delete personal info. Now what is there to steal? If the government requires you to keep that info for whatever reason, then print it out and file it. If they want a look, they can dig through the papers.

Pretty sure a file cabinet has no software loopholes.

Baller, that's unrealistic to even expect these days. Do you know how many thousands of transactions happen in a retail environment each day? Even if they don't store the data, it can still be intercepted and swiped.

They need to get rid of mag swipe cards and move to chip/pin or chip/signature.

I'm sure everyone would love a multi-hour delay when making returns/exchanges while some person physically hunts down their sales order in said filing cabinet. Want to return to a different chain location than the one you purchased at? Not even a possibility.

Why don't you go ask the VA how paper records are working for them...
