If you are one of the possible thousands of iPhone 5 owners with problematic sleep/wake button malfunctions, Apple has begun a free replacement program this weekend in North America and all other countries as of May 2nd.

If you choose to bring it into a store, you will have the option to receive a loaner iPhone 5. These loaner devices will be limited to the 16GB model. The mail-in repairs will not have a loaner option.

"If you believe you have paid for a replacement due to this issue, contact Apple regarding a refund."

I had this issue and returned it already last October. They swapped out for an entirely new phone. AU Japan said they had tons of people with the same issue. Glad it is acknowledged by Apple.

Had this issue when I had mine, and I had it replaced under warranty at the time.
