The mark of success used to be when something was ‘Banned in Boston’, but now it seems the mark has moved to the Middle East. Added to the growing list of countries attempting to control Internet content, Saudi Arabia has begun to tighten controls on YouTube.

"We will make them aware of what's acceptable in Saudi Arabia and what's not acceptable."

Every country who can "controls the internet". Child pornography is one example. For some countries/religions some Youtube content is just as concerning.

There are a lot more things going on in Saudi Arabia to be concerned about than censoring Youtube, if any one really cares.

Governments like to control their people... and if they can't control the people directly, indirectly via their thought processes is the next best thing.

For all the free speech and liberty we enjoy here in the US -- I have no doubt if I started a youtube channel and somehow gained popularity, I could find a topic or ask questions of our government that would put me on their radar and make my life a living hell.

Look at north Korea - "dear leader's" family has taken it to the extreme such that people think this man invented the internet, and is basically a god. They just don't know any better because they've never been allowed to know.

Agreed that they have WAY bigger problems to deal with than little ole' YouTube. I'd wager that it's similar to what happens over here in the states. Some well paid politician or military person at a cushy job has to make it seem like he's doing big important things, picks an easy target like youtube or the internet and start firing off stupid rules.

Quite honestly - we (the US) have wasted so much time/energy/money on that part of the world, I don't give a crap what they do. If they want to live in the stone age, let them. The people will eventually learn (as we did) to stand up for yourself and overthrow an oppressive ruling class.

Saudi Arabia is a Theocracy for all intensive purposes ... I'm actually surprised they haven't done this sooner
